The latest
is a fantastic machine. TopSpeed’s review of the car heaps praise on it by saying, “At this price point, the BMW is the most powerful offering. It’s also the smoothest, the most aggressively styled, and the highest performing.” If you really need more power, then the
and
exist, but the 473-horsepower M2 offers plenty of performance for most folks.
No matter how good the latest M2 is, BMW believes there’s room for improving it. The German brand is deep into developing a CS variant with a more aggressive look and reportedly a significant increase in horsepower. This fresh batch of spy photos catches one testing while wearing some handsome dark gold wheels.
Take A Look At The Upcoming M2 CS
While BMW covers this car’s body in a swirly camouflage wrap, the development team doesn’t seem to conceal any of the exterior’s aggressive styling elements. In front, there’s an aggressive splitter below the bumper. The complex fascia includes stacked openings on the outer corners and boxy inlets closer to the center. The grille with horizontal slats and hood looks similar to the standard M2.
The big, gold wheels are the most eye-catching element along the side of this M2 CS development vehicle. They feature V-shaped spokes with different sizes around the rim and diamond elements closer to the wheel’s hub. The large, red brake calipers are also visible and add color to the car’s silhouette.
The three-quarter perspective shows the big spoiler on the trunk lid. The broad fenders appear to be the same as the existing M2. The fascia around the exhaust pipes seems more aggressive than the current model.
What To Expect From The New M2 CS
While BMW isn’t offering any official specifications yet, there’s a significant amount of reporting about how the M2 CS might improve on the existing model. Most notably, the twin-turbo inline-six engine reportedly makes around 525 horsepower. If the figure is accurate, the new model would have power nearly on par with the 543-horsepower M3 CS.
While the regular M2 is available with a six-speed manual and an eight-speed automatic, the M2 CS would allegedly only offer an auto gearbox. While this decision might upset some purists, the massive increase in horsepower should assuage their disappointment.
The CS would also reportedly stick with a rear-wheel layout, rather than adopting all-wheel drive. This decision would help reduce the vehicle’s weight and drivetrain complexity while potentially allowing drivers to perform big, smokey drifts.
There’s no information about acceleration yet. The existing M2 with the automatic can hit 60 miles per hour in 4.1 seconds, and the CS should be even quicker.
These spy photos don’t provide a good look into the M2 CS’ cabin, but the reports indicate it would have aggressively bolstered sport seats for the front occupants. The driver grips an Alcántara-covered steering wheel.
No pricing details are available at this time. A 2025 M2 starts at $66,075 after the $1,175 destination fee. With so many upgrades over the standard model, it’s safe to guess the CS would cost even more.
TopSpeed’s Take
The current M2 is already a great performance car. More power should make it even more exciting. We can’t wait to see the CS debut to know just how much BMW is turning up the heat for the new variant.
