There’s a running joke among auto enthusiasts that when a buddy asks what car to buy, the answer is always the
. It’s supposed to be fun, because if someone needs a three-row SUV, then a two-seat sports car definitely isn’t the right choice. However, the Miata is an excellent option if somebody is a first-time performance vehicle buyer. They are readily available on the used market, fairly inexpensive, pretty reliable, and fun to drive.

The Miata is celebrating its 35th anniversary following the sports car’s world premiere at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show. Since then, the model has gone through four generations, with variants including the turbocharged MazdaSpeed model and two iterations available with retractable hardtop roofs. Mazda is bringing the Miata 35th Anniversary to the United States to celebrate the milestone in 2025.

Celebrating The Miata

The 2025 Miata 35th Anniversary wears the company’s Artisan Red exterior color, which is currently available on the
SUV. The interior features Tan Nappa leather upholstery on the seats, center console, and lower portion of the dashboard. Black trim covers other areas.

Mazda will debut the 35th Anniversary edition in the United States on January 24, 2025, at the Rolex 24 at Daytona race. The company’s Australian division has several additional photos of the car, providing a much better look at it. We believe the regional variants will be very similar, other than the necessary switch from right- to left-hand drive.

Mazda isn’t saying how many 35th Anniversary models it plans to make for the US or the vehicle’s price. Australia is getting just 50 of them. In Japan, this edition was available to order for a limited time.

If you want to see more of the 35th Anniversary model, the Japanese unveiling was in October 2024. The video below offers an additional glimpse at the special edition sports car.

A New Color

The other major change for the 2025 Miata is introducing a new Deep Crystal Blue color for the Grand Touring grade.

The options include a Brembo brake, BBS wheels, and a Recaro seat package for the Club trim for $4,900 on the soft top, but this equipment is standard on this grade of the RF.
