The refreshed 2025 Porsche 911 debuted in May 2024 with major upgrades for the iconic German sports car. Most notably, the company finally introduced a road-going hybrid powertrain for the GTS trim. The electrical assistance pushed the variant’s output to a heady 532 horsepower and 449 pound-feet of torque.
The base 911 Carrera received updates at the same time. Its twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six engine now makes 388 horsepower – a nine-horsepower increase over the previous iteration. The extra power lets the car reach 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds, which is a 0.2-second cut in the acceleration time.
The 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera S
When Porsche announced the updated 911 range, it didn’t make any mention of the Carrera S, which is the middle child between the base Carrera and the GTS. Now, those details are here.
The Carrera S continues to use a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six engine, but it now makes 473 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. This is a 30-horsepower gain and the same torque figure as the pre-refresh iteration. The new one has power on par with the previous GTS.
The Carrera S with the Sport Chrono Package can accelerate to 60 miles per hour in 3.1 seconds, which is a 0.2-second improvement over the previous version. The top speed is 191 miles per hour.
While all of these improvements are fantastic, manual transmission enthusiasts have reason to despair. The refreshed Carrera S is now only available with the eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Previously, buyers could get a seven-speed manual on this trim level.
More Standard Equipment
The refreshed Carrera S has a suite of new standard equipment and options. For example, the engine uses new turbos and has optimized the charge-air cooling. The car also comes with a Sport Exhaust with silver-colored tailpipes. The brakes come straight from the previous-generation GTS trim. The updated dampers have better response and ride refinement, according to Porsche.
The updated Carrera S is nicer on the inside, thanks to having additional leather-covered areas. The coupe comes standard without rear seats, but they’re a no-cost option to add them. The convertible only comes with chairs in the second row.
The 2025 Carrera S starts at $148,395 for the coupe and $161,595 for the convertible after the $1,995 destination fee. Deliveries begin in the spring of this year.
TopSpeed’s Take
Porsche made the new Carrera S comparable to the previous GTS in terms of power and performance. Plus, it improved the interior. This combination of improvements is a compelling recipe that seems to keep the 911 middle child a compelling choice.
