The Volkswagen T-Roc is the brand’s compact crossover that sits below the Tiguan in size. It has been around since 2017 and has proven to be popular. VW moved 289,426 of them globally in 2023 and 322,211 units in 2022. These figures made the T-Roc the brand’s second-best-selling SUV for both years, behind the Tiguan.

The T-Roc is among the few SUVs available as convertibles. This variant’s revised body eliminates the B-pillar, which gives the profile an airy appearance when the roof is down.

VW also offers the sporty T-Roc R. It uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, making 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic attaches to an all-wheel-drive system.

Check Out The Next-Gen T-Roc

The SUV market is a very competitive segment. Since the T-Roc is already seven years old, VW is now working on a new generation of the model. This latest batch of spy photos offers a glimpse of what to expect.

VW’s engineers use a unique form of camouflage. Rather than wrapping the vehicle in swirly camo like other automakers, VW attempts to make the new product look like the old one. The result is that the front and rear appear to be from the existing T-Roc.

The ample camo makes it difficult to see the exact changes. However, the covering indicates that the new T-Roc has a new front-end design. The headlights now appear to have a more angular shape instead of the existing boxy outline.

The concealment situation is similar at the back, where a large panel covers the hatchback and part of the bumper. Hiding this area suggests that VW has something new underneath.

What To Expect From The New T-Roc

There are no photos of the next-gen T-Roc’s interior. Just to be competitive in this segment, it’s important that automakers offer cutting-edge technology. The current model already offers features such as a digital instrument cluster, but bigger, higher-resolution displays are possible for the next-gen version.

Like the current T-Roc, the next-gen model should share a platform with the Golf. This means the pair would also likely offer some of the same engine and transmission choices.

There’s no indication of the new T-Roc coming to the United States as a replacement for the Taos. VW hasn’t offered the model in the U.S. previously.

TopSpeed’s Take

The Taos is a handsome little SUV. It looks like VW is sticking with a similar aesthetic for the new model.
