The Gran Turismo World Finals, which took place in Amsterdam over the weekend, are meant as a chance for the best Gran Turismo 7 players in the world to show off their skills, but the esports competition has provided some treats for us mere mortals too, in the shape of some new content bound for the game.

The latest addition, which we expect to arrive in the game as part of its January update, is rather tantalising: it’s a fictional open-wheel racer heavily inspired by the F1 cars of the early 1990s, some of the first to use the scintillating 3.5-litre naturally-aspirated engines that made the kind of noise we wish F1 cars would still make today.

It’s called the F3500-A, and is the second fictional F1-inspired car in the game, joining the F1500T-A, an older car inspired by the monstrous turbocharged machines of the 1980s.

Info on the F3500-A is sparse for now, but we know from in-game info it produces 773bhp and weighs 505kg. According to the commentators, that 3.5-litre engine is a V12, although its styling pulls from various cars of the early ’90s, which used a mixture of V8, V10 and V12 engines.

We also get to see – and hear – it in action during the World Finals with a 12-lap race around Monza, and it’s safe to say we’re glad the GT series has finally sorted out its engine noises in the latest titles because it properly captures that ear-piercing wail that defined F1 for so long.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N in GT7

There’s no word on when the F3500-A will appear in-game for the rest of us, but we know an update is due to land in January – likely on the 30th – that’ll bring the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N to the game, and this new car would seem a likely candidate for inclusion then, too.
