The fairways of Monterey Car Week this year were blessed with the presence of a custom 1986 Porsche 911 Targa customized by bb-Auto, a German design firm for which Galpin Motors holds the exclusive rights in the U.S. This tribute car was inspired by the prodigious faith of its owner, one Alexander Everest, who founded the Southern California-based Christ And Cars organization and earns his coin in this world as a healthcare executive. While not a popular profession these days, it pays enough for Everest to have commissioned a Bible-themed 911. That is probably not sacrilege at all, right?

The car is named “Streets of Gold” after a verse in Revelations that reads, “The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.” It reminds us of another Bible verse that goes, “He took the gold from their hands, and with an engraving tool he fashioned it into a molten calf.” We’ll let the final judgment fall to God.

The Bible-Themed 911’s Custom Touches

As one cannot help but see, this Porsche’s biblical transformation includes the aforementioned metallic gold paintwork, as well as signature bb-Auto front and rear styling. There are also bible verses incorporated throughout the design, though we couldn’t spot any in the images provided. Galpin says the gold theme was also carried through to every trim piece, emblem, and accent around the car.

The interior also harkens back to Everest’s favorite bible verse, with gauges that are backed with mother-of-pearl and framed by 24-karat gold bezels. The shift knob was also carved from acacia wood, which Galpin claims could be the same material used for Noah’s Ark. So maybe it floats, too. And in order for the Lord to hear your prayers, the car is fitted with a custom Morel (Moral?) Elate Carbon sound system with Mosconi amplifiers and Focal subwoofers.

Revelations 21:21

The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.

As for the car itself, it does have a bevy of performance modifications that begin with a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter engine modified by Ed Pink Racing that produces a nice round 400 horsepower. The suspension features full-on Porsche Active Suspension Management, while braking power is provided by Brembo, and grip comes courtesy of Michelin Cup 2 tires wrapped around 18-inch HRE wheels.

TopSpeed’s Take

We had a little fun at the expense of Mr. Everest and his new car, but one detail conspicuously missing from Galpin’s account of this car is the cost. Just like the feeling one gets when taking in the extravagance of a cathedral, one has to wonder how many mouths this extravagance might feed. In the case of Everest, one might also wonder how many medical claims were denied to pay for his rolling religiosity.

Admittedly, that’s a cynical take. Many churches do a lot of good in communities where few others are offering help. Many religious people are also moral, compassionate, and selfless in their everyday actions. Perhaps those people should be the ones offering comments on Everest and his new 911 instead of car enthusiasts. We’re happy to turn the mic over to them in the comments.
