Meet Dacora Motors. You’ve probably never heard of this New York-based company. It just had its coming out party on LinkedIn thanks to Jesse Draper, General Partner at venture capital firm Halogen Ventures, who announced the company’s existence to little fanfair, but we noticed.
Draper included a render of Dacora Motors’ first vehicle, which caught our eye thanks to its gorgeous 1930s-inspired styling. We wanted to know more about this yet-to-be-named EV, so we kept digging. Here’s what we found.
What Is Dacora Motors?
Dacora Motors has a few things going for it. For one, it claims to be the first automobile company to be founded by a woman. It was actually co-founded by a woman and a man: Kristie D’Ambrosio-Correll and Eric D’Ambrosio-Correll. Kristie is the CEO, however, and comes from a background in engineering that includes a Master’s Degree from MIT and a long stint at Northrup-Grumman Aerospace Systems.
The company’s website is polished and contains many references to artistry and engineering, the confluence of craftsmanship and technology, and the blending of advanced engineering and artful design. All marketing-speak, for sure, but it’s hard to argue with the concept it’s put forward.
The first vehicle from Dacora Motors, which doesn’t have a name yet, is a sedan of sorts with styling straight out of the 1930s, yet tastefully modernized. We particularly admire its use of wood in the vehicle’s hand-hewn walnut hood and solid wood dashboard.
To call this an electric sedan or even a car would be misleading, however. The vehicle has a full 7.5 inches of ground clearance, the rear seats have more legroom than an F-150, and the rear end swoops down to a tail like a fancy hatchback (think Audi A7, but much taller).

While it may defy categorization, the Dacora car is definitely luxurious. In addition to fine woods, the interior uses responsibly sourced leathers alongside next-generation materials. It’s also completely bespoke, the company claiming it will deliver each buyer a custom creation upon commission.
Unfortunately, all we have for now are some renderings and a short list of specifications that includes a 400-mile range and 800 horsepower from its electric powertrain. Its curb weight will be a hefty-but-not-unreasonable 6,500 pounds, and its storage capacity tops out at 25 cubic feet of space. Oh, and Dacora Motors claims it will also be the “first luxury automotive brand built and manufactured in America.” Mmm … we’re not sure if that’s an accurate statement. At least, there certainly have been a number of American luxury automakers in the past that built their cars here exclusively, even if many today have manufacturing facilities outside the country.
TopSpeed’s Take
We’re optimists at heart, so we hope Dacora Motors continues along its path towards realization and ultimately producing and selling cars. Its concept is a stunner and an interesting take on an emissions-free luxury automobile. Blending styling from a century ago with both functionality and a high degree of luxury sounds like a good way to get wallets open, but we also have to be realistic.
Not many fledgling automakers survive. The recent past is littered with names like Nikola, Fisker, and Lordstown, and not even companies actually producing cars such as Rivian and Lucid are on solid ground yet. That doesn’t mean Dacora Motors is doomed – far from it. Optimism is the fuel of perseverance, which is what any entrepreneur needs to survive long enough to make it to the promised land. Good luck, Dacora.
