The Chevrolet Camaro is one of America’s iconic performance cars. Unfortunately, new examples are no longer available because of Chevy retiring the nameplate after the 2024 model year, with no successor in the product plan. The good news is that there are folks within the company who are pushing to bring the model back.
A team at Chevy recently pitched an idea for a revived Camaro, according to unnamed insiders speaking to GM Authority. However, The administrators shot down the idea.
A Proposal For A New Camaro
The Camaro revival team tried to create a business case for a new generation of the performance car, according to these sources. The plan allegedly even had support from some executives.
When this crew presented their plan, the bosses rejected it because the projected sales volume and profitability calculations weren’t acceptable. It was “blown apart,” according to one of the insider sources.
The good news is that the proposal isn’t completely dead.
“It’s still in play, but the light at the end of the tunnel is now dimmer,”
– a source told GM Authority.
Rumors About The Next Camaro
Since Chevy axed the Camaro, there have been rumors about how the company could revive the model. One report suggested the vehicle could be an EV riding on the Ultium platform. General Motors President Mark Reuss wanted the model to prioritize handling and low prices. He doesn’t want it to be an SUV, either. After the federal tax incentive, the starting cost could be below $30,000.
Reuss expressed support for bringing the model back. Like the Corvette, the Camaro is a performance icon for Chevy, and it has decades of name recognition.
The new Dodge Charger Daytona shows that an electric muscle car can be exciting. It’s available with up to 670 horsepower and accelerates to 60 miles per hour in just 3.3 seconds. For comparison, the Camaro ZL1, before the vehicle’s retirement, had 650 hp and reached 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

The Camaro deserves a comeback. The current Corvette is a great product, but Chevy doesn’t have a more affordable performance model in its current lineup.
However, the auto industry is currently chaotic. Companies are pulling back from going all-in on pure EVs in favor of focusing on extended-range electric models and plug-in hybrids. We would like to know which approach Chevy might take with the new Camaro.
