The Honda GB350S (or the CB350RS, as it’s known in India) is a neo-retro roadster that locks horns with the 350cc Royal Enfields. With its debut in Europe, Honda is now promoting the custom bike culture in Southern Europe by giving dealerships a clean slate to bring their imagination to life. The only condition is that it should be based on the GB350S. The results are impressive, and 21 entries are fighting for the top spot at the “Honda Garage Dreams Contest.” Out of these, the one with our undivided attention is a fully faired custom GB350 designed like an iconic 1960s racebike that revs to nearly 20,000 RPM!

GB166: A Honda GB350S Designed Like The RC166

Straight From The 60s

In the 1960s, Honda pushed the envelope of motorcycle development, and it bore great fruit in the racing world. The Honda RC166 is a classic racebike famed for its 250cc inline-6 engine, which revved to a whopping 18,000 RPM. Its six-cylinder engine was impressively compact, sized nearly to a four-cylinder engine. This high-revving racebike’s influence trickled down to road-going motorcycles, with the CBX being Honda’s first-ever six-cylinder production motorcycle. Owing to its prominence, Otobai Honda Madrid dealership has customized a GB350S to celebrate the RC166.

The roadster has been tastefully dialed up with a full fairing replicating the RC166’s design. The custom fairing houses an aftermarket LED headlamp and a bubble visor. Even the vinyl job on the fairings has been religiously replicated and looks exactly like the 1966 racebike, including the race number “7”. Elevating this custom bike’s visual appeal further are bits like the upper triple tree that houses its clip-on handlebars. This shows us why Honda should take the leap of faith and launch a fully faired neo-retro production version of the GB350.

Notable Aesthetic Modifications

  • Iconic Honda RC166 racebike-inspired design
    • Custom full fairing
    • Bubble visor
    • Racing stickers, including the race number
  • Blacked-out engine and exhaust system
  • Factory-optioned seat cowl for a single-seater conversion
  • Custom “GB166” badging on the sides
  • Custom Honda logo on the fuel tank
  • Bar-end mirrors
  • Custom LED headlamp

Powertrain And Mechanicals Remain Unchanged

Powered By A 348cc Urban-Ready Single

This custom Honda confines its modifications to aesthetics only. Mechanically, it is powered by a 348 cc air-cooled single, producing just over 20 horsepower and over 21 pound-feet of torque. This engine makes it a solid urban runabout, as the peak torque comes in early at 3,000 RPM. Also, by its appearance, the seat height of 31.5 inches remains unchanged, making this custom Honda an approachable machine.

Suspension duties are taken care of by telescopic front forks and twin rear shocks. The brakes are from Nissin and include a 310 mm disc up front and a 240 mm disc at the rear. Also, retained on this custom Honda is the GB 350 S’s stock 19-inch front and 17-inch rear stock alloy wheels, wrapped with tubeless tires. We also suspect the minimal technology suite to be unchanged here. Notable features include a slip-and-assist clutch, traction control, and Honda Emergency Stop System.
