Mugen is one of the premier names in Honda tuning. The relationship makes sense because Hirotoshi Honda, the eldest son of Soichiro Honda, is among the company’s founders. Today, the company M-Tec manages the Mugen brand.
The company continues to produce aftermarket parts for Hondas and is showing off the latest wares at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon running from January 10 through 12. An aggressive body kit for the latest Civic Type R is among the debuts.
Mugen Makes The Civic Type R Look Meaner
The
already has a sporty appearance because of the large inlet in the front fascia, a small vent on the hood, a tall rear wing, and a prominent rear diffuser with three exhaust outlets in the center.
Mugen finds ways to make the body look even more flamboyant. The company’s body kit includes a front splitter that sticks out from the lower fascia. The carbon-fiber hood has a larger vent in the center and louvered sections on each side. There are also vents on top of the fenders. Extended side sills make the car look wider, and there’s a set of sporty mirror caps.
Mugen mounts an even bigger wing to the rear than the stock unit, and a small spoiler is on the decklid. The new diffuser is also larger than the regular unit. A single exhaust pipe exits out of the center.
What To Know About The Civic Type R
Mugen doesn’t modify the Civic Type R, but the car is already plenty potent. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder produces 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The engine’s redline is at 7,000 rpm. The only gearbox option is a six-speed manual transmission driving the front wheels.
The 2025 Civic Type R starts at $46,690 after the $1,095 destination fee. The options include three body colors, each for an extra $455, and forged alloy wheels for $3,164. A $5,459 package bundles together the nicer wheels and a carbon-fiber rear wing. For $984, there’s a pack with illuminated door sill trim, a leather-wrapped shift knob, and an Alcántara-covered steering wheel.
TopSpeed’s Take
People who buy body kits for their vehicles are generally looking for a more aggressive look. Mugen delivers what these folks want with these modifications to the Civic Type R.
