Monterey Car Week 2025 is well underway. Ahead of the famed Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, Lucid just unveiled a new concept vehicle based on its Gravity all-electric utility vehicle. The aptly named Gravity X – or Gravity Cross, if you prefer – is an SUV that “redefines what a trail-ready adventure vehicle could be” by offering greater off-road capability without sacrificing everyday versatility.
“Refined Ruggedness And Quiet Capability”
Appropriately for an upscale brand like Lucid, the Gravity X was revealed on the 18th fairway of the legendary Pebble Beach Golf Links. The vehicle will also be showcased at the fabled golf course during the concourse in just a few days.
Setting this concept apart from the standard Gravity is a range of enhancements that give the vehicle “refined ruggedness and quiet capability.” For starters, the front and rear fascias have been reworked, a change that has improved the vehicle’s approach and departure angles, important attributes while off-roading.
Aside from that, the Gravity X concept features a widened track, the ride height has been elevated for greater ground clearance, and the vehicle’s unique wheels are fitted with all-terrain tires for greatly enhanced traction when tackling tough conditions. Shielding delicate components from damage while navigating trails is protective skid plates. If this vehicle ever gets stuck, there are also integrated tow hooks to make recovery easier.
Up top, there’s a new modular roof system that includes crossbars to support a unique storage box. There are also LED light bars, which are handy while camping or off-roading – and the vehicle even has a range of accessory mounts.
Orange Alert!
Adding some visual zest while still keeping things classy, this design study features a range of orange accents on the exterior. This dash of color is found on the tow hooks, wheels, and lower body cladding. The orange harmonizes nicely with the paint color, a special bronze-ish hue called Astral Drift that also features a satin finish. Brushed metal exterior accents add some sophistication to the vehicle’s overall design, and there is no shortage of “Gravity X” logos. Beyond all that, a topographical map motif has been applied to the hood, a nod to the diverse California landscape, while the side trim features the geographical coordinates for Pebble Beach.
Not surprisingly, those orange accents are carried through to this vehicle’s interior as well. The piping on the seats is rendered in this bold hue, which is also used for contrast-color stitching, is splashed across the door panels, and is even used on the seatbelts.
Providing a luxurious environment for passengers, the Gravity X’s cabin features open-pore walnut wood accents and microsuede on the steering wheel. There’s also premium leather on the seats.
A Fundamentally Compelling EV
It’s unclear how much power or range the Gravity X has, but this vehicle is based on the Grand Touring model, which is graced with 828 horsepower, enough to rocket this SUV to 60 mph in as little as 3.4 seconds. That’s a staggering performance for a vehicle of this size and weight. As for range, the Grand Touring trim offers an estimated 450 miles on a full charge, another stellar attribute of the Gravity.
“Lucid’s range, power, and versatility make it an ideal vehicle for those adventurers looking to explore further off-road,” said Derek Jenkins, SVP of design and brand at Lucid, in a media release from the automaker. “[The] Lucid Gravity has redefined the limits of what an uncompromising SUV can achieve. The Lucid Gravity X concept expands on these core principles to explore new possibilities off the beaten path while showcasing the incredible capabilities of the Lucid Gravity.”
