The Toyota Prius was the first successful hybrid vehicle which has been around for three decades spanning five generations, with the latest one introduced in 2022. When the latest one was released, it received a lot of interest, mainly because of its striking design. Toyota hit a home run with this one, and it is one of the best-looking hybrid vehicles on sale.

When it comes to safety, smaller cars don’t usually perform as well as bigger vehicles for a few reasons, which include their obviously smaller size and MSRP. This means most automakers may not fit cars like this with the best safety technology. But, the Prius might be the safest small hybrid on the market.

The Toyota Prius Is the Only Small Hybrid With A Top Safety Pick+ Award

Safety institutes like the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) are constantly testing safety technology on new cars. Newer cars face more rigorous tests than older ones, but the Prius has come out with flying colors and has achieved the coveted Top Safety Pick+ Award from the IIHS. This is difficult for a car of its class to attain and shows how much Toyota cares about the safety of its customers.

It also received a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA, as well as numerous awards from various media outlets. This solidifies the Prius as the best vehicle to buy in its class. Some of these awards include:
