Two major recalls in less than six months for a Japanese bikemaker is a rare occurrence. Yet, this is exactly what’s happening with Kawasaki. Like the previous one, it’s quite a serious one, too, as Team Green has issued a stop sale as well as a ‘do not drive’ warning. This one applies to the latest-gen model, not the previous model. Let’s dive deeper.

The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R Recall Is Due To A Faulty Crankshaft Bushing

The recall reason is rather similar to the previous recall from June 2025. Kawasaki says the metal crankshaft bushing can be damaged due to excessive torqueing of the crankcase bolts and improper oil clearance between the crankshaft and the bushing. This can cause the bushing to seize, resulting in an engine failure. We all know loss of power all of a sudden can have dire consequences, which explains why a stop-sale and ‘do not drive’ warning is issued, too.

Kawasaki explains:

The bolts holding the crankshaft together in the crankcase were over-torqued, and as a result, the #5 metal crankshaft bushing can be damaged by improper oil clearance between the crankshaft and the bushing. Certain vehicles may lose engine power during operation, increasing the risk of a crash.

Over 20,000 Units Of The Ninja ZX-6R Fall Under The Recall

We believe the new recall is because Kawasaki has discovered more bikes might have the fault. That’s evident from the new 20,301 figure of potentially affected bikes—almost 3,000 up from the June recall. All of these belong to the 2024 and 2025 model years, with production dates varying between April 03, 2023, and July 15, 2025. It includes all variants of the Ninja ZX-6R, such as:

  • 2024 ZX636J (Ninja ZX-6R 40th Anniversary Edition ABS)
  • ZX636K (Ninja ZX-6R 40th Anniversary Edition)
  • Model year 2025-2026 ZX636J (Ninja ZX™-6R ABS/KRT Edition ABS)
  • ZX636K (Ninja ZX™-6R/KRT Edition)
