Sure, you might visit an auto show to ogle the Bentleys or the Ferraris, but practical you ends up strolling to the part of the show floor that aligns with your bank account, and there’s not a darn thing wrong with that.
Shopping is about finding the car with the level of technology you want, reflecting the colors inside and out that you can feel good about for years to come (unless you lease).
There’s gotta be room for the kids and all their stuff, and if you’re shopping above the bare-bones base models with too much hard, black plastic, you’ll hopefully find the materials inside pleasingly tactile, handsome and workable every day.
And maybe, just maybe, this sedan, pickup truck, minivan, SUV or crossover that will take up residence in your driveway will ignite a spark of excitement in your soul and make you proud to get behind the wheel.
Sticker Prices On Display
It doesn’t take six-figure luxury to check any of those boxes, and showrooms across America are eagerly awaiting your visit. Or, you could find out when a town near you will be hosting an auto show so you can do some cross shopping, if you haven’t yet settled on a favorite brand. And you’ll be happy to know that a lot of brands post sticker prices for auto show cars on display, like the Toyota Sequoia ($89,447) below.
Show Geared For Mainstream Now
The 2026 Detroit Auto Show wraps up Sunday, Jan. 25, and this year’s event reflects several years of pivoting from an international expo with expensive cars from around the world to one that is really focused on mainstream shoppers in metro Detroit who might be ready to pull the trigger on a new set of wheels.
Doing Without Luxury Brands
True, the Toyota Corollas and Honda Civics have been on the Detroit show floor for decades, but it was hard to look at them seriously when the new BMW M3 was just across the way, or the redesigned Audi A8. Without the foreign luxury brands in Detroit, the show floor is all about the mainstream.
TopSpeed walked the floor and assembled four photo galleries looking at key vehicle segments represented.
The first gallery focused on exotics and sports cars, the second on pickup trucks and SUVs and the third on luxury cars. This final photo collection highlights the vehicles real people buy every day.
