The Tesla Model Y became the world’s best-selling car in 2023 and for good reason. Like its successful Model 3 sibling, it offers the best of Tesla in a smaller SUV package at an affordable price. This has given the Model Y a considerable lead from its competitors, but while the Model Y has received updates over the years, it still looks the same since 2020. It needs a visual update, especially since the Tesla Model 3 Highland has been out for a year already.
Tesla has already said the Model Y will get a visual update and is being . It is also expected to get some powertrain and software updates. Tesla has said there will be no refresh coming for the Model Y this year, but recent updates point towards Tesla unveiling a refreshed Model Y in the first quarter of 2025.
Tesla Model Y Juniper Ready For Production
According to a Chinese blogger, the Tesla Model Y has entered trial production at its Shanghai factory. There have been a lot of recent sightings of camouflaged Tesla Model Y prototypes sighted testing. This surely means that Tesla is gearing up to make an update to the Model Y range, and a huge one at that when compared to the updated Model 3.
If this is true and Tesla is making this in China, then we may see the unveiling in the Chinese market first before it makes its way Stateside. This is similar to what happened with the Model 3 Highland, it was unveiled in Europe four months before it became available in the U.S. Tesla is not saying much about this car, but it seems inevitable that the Model Y needs an update soon.
Delaying On Purpose
Most automakers normally delay giving information too early about upcoming vehicles until necessary, but Tesla also has a valid reason. The Model Y is currently the best-selling vehicle (not just EVs) in the world and that is a huge feat, announcing a refresh might slow down the pace since the year hasn’t ended. Buyers may decide to wait till the redesigned model comes out and buy that instead.
This is a smart decision for Tesla since it usually doesn’t keep to timelines, and if there’s any delay in testing and production, that could affect Model Y sales. However, an update is coming and will most likely be unveiled in 2025.
