The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is already one of the greatest high-performance electric vehicles ever built, but that isn’t stopping the South Korean automaker from doing more, much more. Further elevating this already-lofty product, Hyundai recently unveiled the new Ioniq 5 N DK Edition at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon. This car is a unique collaboration between Hyundai and the Japanese Drift King himself, Keiichi Tsuchiya.

Further Elevating an EV Icon

This scalding-hot hatchback already delivers staggering speed, both in a straight line and around corners, plus the car offers some truly groundbreaking features including N e-shift, which simulates an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Further elevating the DK Edition is a raft of exclusive N performance parts developed by Hyundai engineers and Tsuchiya.

Mechanical upgrades to this Magnum-caliber EV include 21-inch forged wheels that are both wider and lighter, for enhanced traction and reduced unsprung mass. Special DK Edition springs drop the vehicle by 15 mm (0.6 inches) for a lower center of gravity and improved handling. These new coils work hand-in-glove with the Ioniq 5 N’s standard electronically controlled dampers, something Tsuchiya said in a YouTube video basically can’t be improved.

Finally, making sure drivers can control this car when going for a rip around their favorite circuit or twisting road are six-piston monoblock front brake calipers that are made of a special aluminum alloy called duralumin. These binders are also fitted with performance brake pads that have 54 percent more contact area, another wise upgrade given this EV’s performance and prodigious weight. A standard Ioniq 5 N tips the scales at around 4,861 pounds.

All of those mechanical changes should make the DK Edition even more fun to drive than a “run-of-the-mill” Ioniq 5 N, though the Drift King didn’t skimp on visual enhancements, either. This car is dressed up with a smattering of carbon fiber aerodynamic components that not only look mean but also provide additional downforce at speed. There’s a new splitter up front and special spoiler at the rear. The side skirts are made of carbon fiber, too, as is the rear diffuser.

A Great Starting Point

The DK Edition promises to elevate the Ioniq 5 N experience, not that the car necessarily needed additional upgrades. This Hyundai delivers up to 641 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque with the N Grin Boost mode engaged. That’s enough to propel this hatchback from a standstill to 60 mph an estimated 3.25 seconds.

But the Ioniq 5 N is not just quick when you pounce on the accelerator; it’s also a DC fast-charging champion. The car’s burly 84-kilowatt-hour battery pack can absorb energy at a rate of up to 238 kilowatts, a staggering speed, one that’s enough to take the pack from a 10 percent state of charge to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. That’s one of the best charging performances you’ll find in the automotive industry today.

Where And When Can You Buy One?

The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N DK Edition is expected to go on sale in both Japan and South Korea this year, though it’s unclear whether this exciting new EV will ever make its way across the Pacific to North America. Details about pricing and availability have not been made public, though the automaker is expected to announce additional information soon.
