It’s been a little over three years since the Lucid Air hit the streets, and the electric sedan has been impressing customers and the media alike with its luxury, technical ingenuity, excellent range, and sheer power. There’s just one problem: sedans don’t sell like SUVs do, and Lucid didn’t have anything else to offer.
That changes now, as the brand’s second vehicle, the Lucid Gravity SUV, has officially entered production. Though it’s still expensive, with a current pre-destination starting price of $94,900 for the Grand Touring trim, Lucid hopes the new offering will help boost sales significantly.
Lucid Offering Single Gravity Trim, For Now
The Lucid Gravity Grand Touring comes standard as a five-seater, and a third row good for two more seats adds $2,900. It has a whopping 828 horsepower on tap. It hasn’t been EPA-certified yet, but Lucid expects a bladder-busting driving range of over 440 miles on a single charge. Abyss Black is the standard exterior color, and anything else on the palette will add another $1,000.
Inside, it comes with the Mojave Purluxe leather-alternative interior — Purluxe Premium seats add $2,900, and real leather costs $4,200. It comes with 20-inch wheels up front, with 21s in the rear, but you can upgrade to 21/22 for $1,750, or 22/23 for $3,500. There are a number of options packages to upgrade tech, sound, and driver assistance as well. There’s even a towing package ($750), which allows the Gravity to pull up to 6,000 pounds.
While it’s as easy as checking a couple of boxes in the configurator to get the price into the six-figure range, Lucid does plan on selling a lower trim in the future. The Gravity Touring will start at $79,900, but won’t be available until late 2025, Lucid says.
Lucid Starting Slow, But Has High Hopes
Lucid expects the Gravity to appeal to a larger audience than the Air sedan, but is cautious about production. Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson told Automotive News that the company would ramp up production slowly through 2025 in order to ensure quality control, and that “it’s going to run into ’26 before we start really, really getting to high volume.”
And that volume will be welcome to Lucid if it translates to sales, especially compared to the Air. For the third quarter of 2024, Lucid announced just $2,781 deliveries, and 1,805 vehicles produced. Lucid also plans more models in the future, affordable models in particular, that should help the company achieve more popularity in the coming years. Lucid’s stock price rose over the weekend on the news of Gravity production beginning. It closed at $2.30 on Friday, and opened at $2.59 on Monday. As of this writing on Tuesday, the price has dropped again, showing some volatility.
