Camper trailers, or heavy-duty SUVs and pickups converted into homes on wheels, are the most practical and spacious options. But what if we become a bit too ambitious and try to replicate this on two wheels? Heavy-duty motorcycles (especially torquey cruiser-based tourers, baggers, and trikes would make for the perfect donors, if one is ambitious enough. However, a particular Chinese company is thinking way outside the box with patents for a camper mounted on a scooter! Yes, if things do pan out, then we’re looking at the world’s smallest camper based on a Honda maxi-scooter.
Patents From China Hint At The Smallest Camper Cabin
A new, unnamed Chinese company from Guangdong, China, referred to as an “energy technology company,” has patented a two-wheeled motorhome. The patent images, unearthed by Dongchedi, show a scooter that has been modified with a sizable camper setup at the rear. The cabin is tiny but neatly integrated and doesn’t look out of place either. There are no details on the dimensions, mounting points, or interior features of this concept. However, from the images, it appears to have four tiny windows at the sides, and the rear quarter is noticeably wider than the rest.
Converting the pillion seat into a camper will not provide enough space for an occupant to sleep flat. However, we assume it would have a luxurious layout similar to a massaging and reclining captain’s seat, as seen on luxury minivans. The use cases are somewhat limited, but the coolest one of all is using this camper scooter’s main stand at designated camping spots on a rainy day and taking a nap.
Expected Features Of This Camper On Two Wheels
- Protected from the elements of nature
- Comfortable seating layout akin to that of a recliner seat
- Heated and ventilated function
Based On The Honda PCX Scooter
The Honda PCX150 Starts At $4,249
The Honda PCX is a sharp-looking maxi-scooter that is designed for urban duties and occasional highway runs. The PCX150, equipped with a 157cc single-cylinder engine, is sold in the US, while the UK receives the smaller PCX125, featuring a 125cc single-cylinder engine. Apart from the engine, all other elements are shared between the two, including the chassis, suspension setup, brakes, and even fuel tank size.
Performance numbers are modest, with the more powerful PCX150 producing 13.3 horsepower and 10.3 pound-feet of torque. The smaller PCX125 is not far off, at 11.7 horsepower. However, either way, this scooter is likely to struggle with the added weight of the sizable camper, as showcased in the patents. In stock form, the PCX125 and PCX150 weigh between 290 and 300 pounds.

A Mini Camper On Two Wheels: Is It Any Good?
These patent images are clearly ambitious, as the added weight and tiny 2.1-gallon fuel tank mean this Honda Scooter-based camper is unlikely to go places. This is why we have emphasized the “recreational” aspect of this vehicle, as it can at best serve as a weekend escape to camping spots closer to home. However, credit where it’s due, this concept is well-executed on paper and should pan out to be a perfect escape for someone seeking a budget-friendly getaway for some me-time.
