In recent times, Buell has made all the right kind of noises with its stellar all-American motorcycles. Taking that up a notch for the 4th of July, the bikemaker has whipped up a special superbike for all you patriots. It’s called the Hammerhead 1190 Freedom edition, and it looks like a million bucks. Here’s what you need to know.
A Special Star-Spangled Livery Drapes The New Hammerhead 1190 Freedom Edition
Just like last year’s Freedom edition, the latest Hammerhead flexes a special livery. It blends the colors of the American flag (red, white, blue), while topping things with bespoke graphics. The latter includes stars on the headlight cowl and tank, plus deep red textures on the fairings. Another likable touch is the Buell logo, which has been left in the raw carbon fiber finish. As good as that is, there’s no color-matched saddle here like last year. Seems like a missed opportunity, doesn’t it?
There Are No Mechanical Changes On The Hammerhead 1190 Freedom Edition
Under the beautiful skin, the Freedom edition is exactly like the standard Hammerhead. You get a race-proven 1,190cc V-twin engine, good for 185 horsepower and 102 pound-feet of torque. The latter is higher than all your favorite liter-class superbikes, be it the Ducati Panigale V4 or the Honda CBR1000RR-R SP. A six-speed transmission, equipped with a slipper clutch and quickshifter, helps put the power to the road. You don’t get any fancy modern-day rider aids, however.
Elsewhere, the engine sits inside a unique aluminum chassis. This is a hollow setup that doubles up as the fuel tank to keep the weight low (just 419 pounds). Suspension duties are via Showa USD forks and a Showa monoshock, both of which are adjustable. 17-inch alloy wheels round off the package, where the front houses Buell’s staple 386mm perimeter disc brake with an inside-out eight-piston caliper.
The Buell Hammerhead Freedom Edition Will Set You Back By Over $20,000
If you like what you see, prepare to spend over $20,000. Buell claims the base bike sells for $20,995 and the range tops out at $26,995. While the exact MSRP isn’t out, we think the latest Freedom edition should be in the $25,000 ballpark–judging from last year. It’s not exactly too affordable, but it’s not too pricey by liter superbike standards either. Oh, and let’s not forget this is made by hand in the United States for the United States!
