Restomods have become a big business today. Companies have evolved from just taking old vehicles and restoring them to adding modern features and mechanical parts. One of those companies is Velocity Modern Classics, which mainly focuses on restoring Classic trucks. It has just announced a new line of modern production international scouts.
This is the seventh model in the lineup with iconic classics, including the Ford F-100, Mustang, F-250, Bronco, Chevy C10 K5 Blazer, and the International Harvester Scout. The Scout II is the latest creation and has been built to the same high standard as the other Velocity creations. The Scout has been built as an off-road vehicle capable of tackling any terrain with ease and comfort.
Velocity Scout II
The Velocity Scout II is based on the International Scout made between 1971 and 1980 by International Harvester. Velocity International has reimagined this off-roader in its modern form and made it more comfortable and capable than it ever was. From the recognizable but improved exterior to the plush interior fitted with modern features, Velocity Modern Classics has done justice to this classic truck.
The Velocity Scout two sits on a custom chassis made by Roadster Shop, which builds custom chassis, suspension, and performance parts for vehicles. It also gets a host of upgrades, which include:
- A safari top
- JWSpeaker LED headlights
- Amp Research Power Step retractable running boards
- Velocity-exclusive Roadster Shop chassis
- Dana 44 front and Dana 60 rear axles
- Wilwood four-piston disc brakes
- 18-inch MT Bullet polished alloy wheels
- 35-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires
The interior is much nicer than anything you would have gotten in the original Scout. You get custom leather or marine-grade vinyl, which is made to be more durable. It has front bucket seats, rear bench seats with optional heated and ventilated functions, and a six-point harness. There is some modern equipment like:
- A Vintage Air air-conditioning system
- Bluetooth
- Apple CarPlay-enabled touchscreen (optional)
- Focal audio speakers and subwoofer
Each Velocity vehicle is built in-house, undergoes 500 miles of rigorous testing and a 300-point quality inspection, and includes a two-year bumper-to-bumper warranty.
There’s also a heritage edition that gets unique exterior and interior touches compared to the regular vehicle. These include:
- Custom exterior billet components
- A paint-matched engine bay
- Color-matched painted steel wheels.
- Custom leather interior and Recaro front bucket seats.
- A bespoke Velocity center console with wireless charging
- A leather-wrapped Sparc Industries billet steering wheel
- Color-matched carpet
- Billet door handles, window cranks, and dash knobs.
- An upgraded double-din head unit with Apple CarPlay
Powered By The LT1 V8
The International Scout II was powered by a number of engines from an inline four to a V8, there were seven engines in total, five gas engines and two Nissan diesel engines. It was paired with either a three/four-speed manual or two available three-speed automatics. The most powerful version made 161 horsepower and 292 pound-feet of torque.
The Velocity Scout II gets a 6.2 liter LT1 V8 making 460 and 465 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission sending power to a permanent four-wheel drive system. This gives this vehicle more than enough power and, with its latest upgrades, it can tackle any terrain.
