Like all of us, UK-based TTS Performance was pretty hurt by the mundanely upgraded third-gen Hyabausa. So the shop took it upon themselves to create the Busa that Suzuki didn’t build. The close-to-370-horsepower SuperBusa is a Hayabusa dialed up to 12. This monster Busa has already dominated the drag strip with easy sub-10-second quarter-mile runs without breaking a sweat.

But TTS wanted more accolades. So the shop decided to pit its prized possession against a proper race bike in a drag race. But that’s not all. It even gave the WSBK racebike an unorthodox weight advantage that we didn’t see coming!

A 992-Pound Supercharged Busa Races A 551-Pound Suzuki Gixxer Race Bike

The Supercharged Hayabusa Produces Close To Double The Power Of The Gixxer Race Bike

You might be thinking about how a modified Suzuki Hayabusa ended up weighing closer to the heaviest luxury touring cruisers out there. Well, the weight figures mentioned in the title are those of the rider + motorcycle. The laden Busa weighs nearly 1000 pounds because on the saddle is the 2017 World’s Strongest Man, Eddie Hall, who weighs 430 pounds. The WSBK Suzuki Gixxer race bike is being tamed by 2014 World Super Bike Champion Sylvian Guintoli, who weighs just over 165 pounds. The Hayabusa, with almost twice as much power as the Gixxer, is now carrying nearly twice the weight. The playing field is leveled, right?

This is where the rider’s skill set comes into the picture. Sylvian Guintoli, being a professional racer, has a much superior grasp of extracting the most from a performance bike than an occasional rider like Eddie. This is evident in all the drag runs between the two. Eddie fails to get a good start, which gives Sylvian the edge. While Eddie clocked an 11.7-second quarter-mile time in both his runs, Guintoli did it better with a first run time of just over 10 seconds and a second run of sub-10 seconds. After a few runs, the TTS Performance peeps decided to swap Eddie for a surprise rider who could match Guintoli’s skills.

The Supercharged Hayabusa Wins With A Sub-10-Second Quarter-Mile Time

9.23 Seconds @ 167 MPH

The face-off finally gets heated when Eddie Hall is replaced by Ricky Elder, a fellow professional racer and founder of REPerformance. For the record, he weighs less than Sylvian Guintoli. And the SuperBusa finally won with the 2014 racing champion on the saddle. Guintoli also achieved his best on the supercharged Busa with a quarter-mile run time of 9.23 seconds @ 164 mph. This was even quicker than what TTS Performance’s main man, Richard Albans, achieved at 9.26 seconds @ 163 mph. Elder was not far behind with the best time of 9.44 seconds @ 164 mph.

These are impressive numbers, given that these two racers were just a few runs in with a new beastly motorcycle. A few more practice sessions, and they could have had a drag race run of sub-8 seconds. But that didn’t happen because, during the session, the headers blew off, and the SuperBusa had to retire. Earlier, Eddie Hall’s heft had also messed up the rear-wheel bearing.

A Wilder 450-Horsepower Version Of The TTS SuperBusa Exists

That Achieved An Impressive Sub-8-Second Quarter Mile Time!

The SuperBusa has already achieved sub-8-second run times on the drag strip, thanks to the wilder drag-spec version. This 450-horsepower Busa gets a few additional modifications over the standard “road-legal”~370-horsepower version. These include a stretched double-sided swingarm, a performance clutch, an electronic air shifter, and several engine internal tweaks. This build also helped TTS Performance clock their best-ever quarter-mile run time of 8.35 seconds @ 178 mph in June 2024 at Santa Pod Raceway.
