The Lexus LX series combines rugged off-road capability and a luxurious interior to take on premium SUVs such as the Land Rover Range Rover and Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, among others. It shares underpinnings with the Toyota Land Cruiser 300, which is still available in some markets and is larger than the Land Cruiser currently on sale in the United States.
The latest iteration of the LX arrived in the U.S. for the 2022 model year. The LX 600 grade features a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6, making 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic gearbox hooks up to a full-time four-wheel drive system.
The LX 700h Joins The Lineup
Lexus introduces a new LX 700h trim for the 2025 model. As its name indicates, this grade adds hybrid assistance to the existing twin-turbo V-6 and pushes the engine’s output to 457 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque. It still uses a 10-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive. The company expects this powertrain to allow for an EPA-estimated combined fuel economy rating of 20 miles per gallon. The existing LX 600 gets 19 mpg combined. Both models can tow up to 8,000 pounds.
For improved reliability off-road, there’s a separate starter and alternator. The setup means if the hybrid system stops working, then the starter can independently get the engine running while the alternator charges the 12-volt auxiliary battery. Also, the hybrid battery is inside a waterproof structure that protects it when fording through deep water as deep as 27.5 inches.
The LX 700h receives additional standard equipment in the cabin. There’s a cool box in the center console and a manual sunshade at the rear. A 2,400-watt AC inverter powers gear when off the beaten path. The luggage compartment has a folding shelf system for making the most of the space back there.
The LX 700h is also exclusively available with the Advanced Park with Remote Park system. It uses four cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors to park the SUV without driver intervention.

TopSpeed’s Take
The $115,350 base price for the new LX 700h is undoubtedly a lot of money to spend on a vehicle. However, the general consensus is that the existing model is a competitive SUV in the premium class. More power and torque should be helpful, and the extra amenities like the AC inverter and cool box sound very useful for off-roaders. We look forward to driving one and experiencing the changes.
