If you own a new Range Rover, be on the lookout for a recall notice. Parent company Jaguar Land Rover is calling back a fair few of these off-road-ready SUVs to rectify a potentially dangerous defect with one of these vehicles’ core safety systems, components you absolutely want to make sure function properly in a crash.

Buckle Up, Please

What’s the issue? Well, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), certain 2025 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models may have defective seatbelt buckles in the second-row middle seat that may not latch correctly. If these don’t buckle as designed, any person seated in that position could be severely injured in a wreck.

Detailing the issue, according to the recall safety report, “One of the jigs used at the buckle supplier did not secure the buckle’s internal cable in the correct location during a riveting process. The incorrectly located internal cable can provide an obstruction to the seat belt tongue and prevent correct latching. The tongue may appear secure when correct latching has not occurred.” To rectify this potential issue, dealers will replace the buckle assembly and retaining bolt for the center seat safety restraint. Naturally, this work will be performed free of charge, so there’s no need to swing by an ATM or bring your checkbook to the service appointment.

Expect A Notice In The Mail After May 2

This recall was announced on March 12 and applies to 7,276 copies of these luxury utility vehicles, though only 25 percent of them are estimated to have the defect, which should be right around 1,800. Jaguar Land Rover is expected to mail out official documentation about this recall to owners by May 2, 2025.
