American Honda (AHM) just enjoyed its best month of sales yet for Honda and Acura SUVs and light trucks, hybrids, and electric vehicles, but saw a noticeable drop in sales for Honda and Acura ICE cars.

Collectively, 108,466 Honda and Acura ‘trucks’ were sold through official American Honda dealerships last month, a 26 percent increase over Honda and Acura SUV sales in March 2024 and the “best month of all-time” for AHM since its foundation in 1959. Of those near-109K sales, Honda SUVs did most of the heavy lifting, accounting for 98,374 units last month.

By contrast, ‘just’ 39,326 Honda and Acura cars were sold in total in March 2025, a drop of 11 percent compared with last year. Despite this, AHM completed 147,792 overall sales last month, an increase of 13.2 percent over the same period in 2024. The 135,040 total ‘Hondas’ sold last month, meanwhile, marks a 13 percent increase compared with last year, and represents the marque’s best sales figure since June 2021.

“Our sales results continue to reflect the strengths of the Honda and Acura brands with record March and 1st quarter sales for both light trucks and electrified models. Our sales momentum is based on a flexible strategy of offering fuel efficient petrol, hybrid-electric and battery-electric models to meet the needs of our customers and the sales results validate that approach.”

CR-V Still The Honda To Beat

On the Honda side, the CR-V SUV proved the bestseller, accruing 45,587 sales in March 2025 compared with 36,655 units sold last year (a 29 percent increase). The CR-V was also, comfortably, the highest-selling Honda between March 2024 and March 2025, with 103,325 deliveries completed compared with 95,038 sold the previous year, a near-12 percent increase.

Significantly, Honda sold almost double the number of CR-Vs in the United States last month compared with its next highest seller, the Civic (24,625). Rather brutally, 627 fewer examples of the sedan were sold last month than in March 2024, and Honda’s bestselling car in the United States sold ‘only’ 58,976 units between March 2025 and March 2024, compared with 61,929 examples delivered the previous year.

Among the most impressive sales growth, however, came from the Odyssey minivan, of which 10,282 examples were sold last month compared with 7,247 during the same period in 2024, a striking 47 percent increase. Though the outgoing, 2024MY Passport could not match the Odyssey in terms of sales (5,558 in March 2025 compared with 2,960 in March 2024), the Passport saw the most impressive sales growth for Honda at 95 percent.

The Passport also experienced the highest sales growth, per model line, for Honda between March 2024 and March 2025, at 54.9 percent; 11,698 sales vs. 7,755. This also bests the 30.5 percent increase for the Odyssey (22,102 vs 17,393), an 11.6 percent improvement for the CR-V (103,325 vs. 95,038), and 10.4 percent hike for the HR-V crossover (40,944 vs 38.062) during the same period.

Acura MDX Highest Seller; All-Electric ZDX The MVP

Though sales of the more premium Acura brand paled in comparison to parent company Honda between March 2024 and March 2025 – 30,766 for the former, 320,811 for the latter – the American brand similarly enjoyed its best month of the financial year as sales increased by 6.6 percent. Like Honda, Acura SUVs were once again the bestsellers, with the mid-sized MDX and the smaller RDX making up the brunt of sales with 4,212 and 3,767 examples respectively in March 2025, and 10,641 and 8,922 examples respectively year-to-date.

Ironically, sales for both the MDX and the RDX were actually down year-on-year, though this shortfall was made up by the newly-introduced ZDX SUV, which sold 1,935 examples last month and 4,813 during its first months on sale in the United States.

Like Honda, Acura car sales also suffered, as the Integra and TLX sedans were down both last month, and year-to-date. Indeed, 4,680 Acura Integras sold between March 2024 and March 2025 marked a 25.9 percent drop from the 6,485 units the year prior, while the TLX saw a 40.2 percent drop (1,532 vs 2,630) during the same period. Collectively, total sales from Acura cars in the United States were down a sizable 31.8 percent.

Strong Sales For Electrified Hondas And Acuras

American Honda was quick to point out that the company also enjoyed both its “best March” (45,831) and “best Q1” (110,022) for hybrid and electrified vehicles, with the CR-V plug-in hybrid once again the bestselling model both in March and year-to-date. The all-electric Prologue, which picked up 9,561 sales in total between March 2024 and March 2025, and the all-electric Acura ZDX were far from disgraced, with the latter even setting an “all-time monthly sales record.” Both, however, still propped up the AHM’s electrified sales.

Per model line, 54 percent (24,755) of all Honda CR-Vs sold in the United States last month were plug-in hybrid, while over 63 percent of Accords sold were also hybrid-electric.
