Audi is celebrating an important milestone in the world of sports. For a full decade now, the German luxury automaker has partnered with and supported Major League Soccer (MLS). Since the two organizations teamed up back in 2015, the four-ring brand has helped raise more than $5 million for youth development, money that has supported some 430 academy graduates make their way to first-team rosters.
Boosting Young Players In A Big Way
Aside from that big, ol’ chunk of change, Audi has also invested $570,000 in player-led initiatives to support “youth development, education, and social equity across the U.S. and Canada.” This money has undoubtedly made a big impact on communities and the lives of players.
Hundreds of soccer enthusiasts have benefited from the work Audi is doing, and 430 graduates of the academy have transitioned to first-team rosters.
“Our decade-long partnership with MLS reinforces our commitment to help support the growth of the sport in North America, investing in young players, and strengthening the league’s connection to its fans,” said Daniel Weissland, president of Audi of America in a media release shared by the automaker. “Audi believes in the power of performance – on the field, in communities, and in the lives of young athletes,” he also noted.
Similarly, MLS commissioner Don Garber said in the same release, “Audi has been an exceptional partner and game-changer for Major League Soccer over the past 10 years, helping grow the league and investing in the next generation of talent.” He added that the luxury automaker “has opened doors” for countless young soccer enthusiasts thanks to the Audi Goals Drive Progress initiative, which helps support soccer clubs and fans. “We’re excited to celebrate this milestone together and can’t wait for what’s ahead,” Garber added.
Doing More Good
The Audi Goals Drive Progress program helps fund youth MLS soccer academies. Every goal scored during the MLS season helps support up-and-coming talent by funding education, housing and transportation for these promising new players. Beyond all that, the company also supports training facilities. Called Audi Performance Centers, these are located at certain MLS academies, and they provide academic support, access to technology, and additional resources to help young players succeed both on the field and off.
Hundreds of soccer enthusiasts have benefited from the work Audi is doing, and 430 graduates of the academy have transitioned to first-team rosters. Additionally, more than 8,000 goals have been scored, which has helped raise the $5 million mentioned above.
Football, basketball, and baseball are probably the most popular sports in the U.S., but don’t discount Major League Soccer. Audi’s support has helped grow the popularity of this sport to an all-time high in North America. Additionally, Audi Field in Washington D.C. will host FIFA’s very first Club World Cup this year, underscoring the automaker’s backing of this sport.
