The BMW development team is very familiar with the Nürburgring Nordschleife because the engineers use the famous track for vehicle development and for setting fast laps. For example, the company released the full onboard videos of the M2 and M4 CS to show off how quickly they can go around the iconic course.

BMW celebrates the Nordschleife with the new M4 Edition Nürburgring. It just debuted at Auto Shanghai as a celebration of the brand’s 25 years of cooperation with the track. Unfortunately, the company decided to offer the limited run of 53 units only in China. TopSpeed already reached out to BMW North America and confirmed there were no plans to offer this special vehicle elsewhere.

The BMW M4 Edition Nürburgring For China

The special-edition M4’s 53-unit production run is due to this being the 53rd anniversary of the BMW M division. All of them come with a Frozen Deep Green metallic body, which is a sly reference to the course’s “Green Hell” nickname. The official Nürburgring Nordschleife logo is on the grille and inside on the headrest embroidery. The car rides on bronze-colored wheels. The door sills have a plaque with the message “Nürburgring 1/53,” and there’s an outline of the course on the headrests.

Prices for the China-exclusive model start at roughly $150,000 (1,088,000 Renminbi), according to BMW Blog. For comparison, a stock M4 there costs about $19,000 less at current exchange rates.

The M4 Competition is a legitimately impressive sports coupe, whether someone is using it on the road or track. In fact, TopSpeed called it the Best European Sports Car of 2022. At the time, we said:

Despite the M4 Competition’s ability to thrill, it’s not simply a track-focused machine. Ride quality is comfortable enough for the daily commute, and all those aforementioned adjustable settings can make the Competition no harder to drive than a family sedan.

The model has ample straight-line performance and sharp handling. Plus, there are a ludicrous number of modes for tweaking elements such as throttle mapping, braking, steering, suspension, and all-wheel drive setup. “Frankly, the number of adjustments is a bit too much, and for those who don’t have the better part of a day to fine-tune, there are two M buttons atop the thick steering wheels that will revert to prior custom settings or BMW’s own,” TopSpeed wrote in its review.

TopSpeed’s Take

The BMW M4 Edition Nürburgring looks outstanding. The dark green exterior color and red accents give the body a flashy look. The bronze wheels add a pleasant color contrast, too. Plus, the Nürburgring track outline on the seat headrests adds a vibrant pop to the cabin. Unfortunately, these unique touches aren’t coming to the United States.
