Toyota is well-known for building reliable and dependable vehicles. So, when people are looking for cars to buy new or used, they usually consider buying a Toyota. Even a vehicle with high mileage doesn’t scare most buyers as long as it has a good maintenance history.

While most people tend to buy a car every five to 10 years, there are a group of people who own cars for much longer than that. Sometimes a car meets an owner’s requirements and it is hard to replace that vehicle. However, Toyota has built a reliable vehicle that people love to own for a very long time, and it’s a hybrid.

People Retain The Toyota Highlander Hybrid For Well Over A Decade

The Toyota Highlander has been around since 2000 and is currently in its fourth generation. The hybrid version came in 2005 and every new generation has always had a hybrid version. Studies have shown that many owners love the Highlander hybrid so much that they hybrid to keep them for up to 15 years or more. The main reason for this is that these cars are very reliable, practical and, of course, very fuel efficient.

This makes the Highlander hybrid the most loved vehicle, with seven percent of original owners wanting to keep them for up to 15 years. This isn’t a regular occurrence, since most owners tend to change cars once they’re out of warranty. As cars age, parts wear, and they get more expensive to maintain, but considering all these, the Highlander hybrid seems to be a top choice for long term ownership. iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer said:

Most consumers can’t commit to a single vehicle for more than a decade, but those that do save a lot of money on their vehicle costs. Keeping a car for 15 years means no loan payment for most of that time, along with falling insurance and registration costs. Those reduced expenses can counter higher maintenance costs as a car ages, especially in durable models that hold up well over time.

Toyota Models Are The Most Loved Vehicles

The Highlander hybrid isn’t the only Toyota that people keep for a very long time. Among the 13 cars that people love to own the longest, Toyota has seven cars on this list, with five cars occupying the top positions. Its subsidiary brand Lexus is the only luxury brand to make this list, with the Lexus IS 350 at number eight.
