Everrati makes old cars really, really quiet. The company specializes in electrifying old classics, updating and restoring them where necessary along the way. Everrati recently marked its expansion into Canada with its first Canadian customer vehicle, an electrified Porsche 911, part of the 964 generation of 911s, called the Lighthouse Commission.
New Batteries Mean Power And Range
The Lighthouse Commission started life as an air-cooled 964-generation 911, but now features Everrati’s “re-engineered” battery unit. The new batteries mean that the 964 makes far more horsepower than it ever did when powered by a six-cylinder gasoline engine. The company claims this coupe produces 500 horses, dropping 0-60 mph from 5.5 seconds (in the case of a manual 965 Carrera) to under 3.7 seconds. The range is said to be around 200 miles, though Everrati states regenerative braking should further increase that figure.
The company says this 964’s weight was “optimized,” which likely means the Lighthouse Commission also weighs less than the original item. Adding the batteries was done carefully, so as not to upset the car’s rearward weight distribution, and carbon fiber components were used “throughout,” probably to counteract the effects of adding heavy batteries to a car that originally came with just one housed in the front trunk.
Old With A Twist
The whole point of a car like this is to tweak things as need tweaking, bringing the 964 forward by a few decades. A custom adaptive suspension system will help this 911 feel more modern than it otherwise would have if left alone, and Porsche’s own updated infotainment for its classic cars brings modern features like Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple Carplay. LED headlights also help with drivability and safety, in addition to creating a more modern face surrounded by old-school bodywork. Custom dials also fit the old 911 aesthetic, but feature readouts for modern functionality, like battery state-of-charge.
“The new Everrati Lighthouse is so much more than a visual masterpiece; this vehicle is designed for real-world use. The client challenged us to create a vehicle that captures the timeless, enduring appeal of the 964 while delivering reliability with daily, year-round driving in mind,” said Everrati Founder & CEO Justin Lunny.
TopSpeed’s Take
Electrifying classics is a controversial practice, but one that’s becoming more popular in the higher reaches of the aftermarket world. Taking a car that is almost wholly defined by its driving experience and engine and removing a big chunk of that is certainly a challenge, but Everrati’s take on the 911 has proven popular enough that the brand has continued to expand. It may not be your thing, but there’s enough someones out there who like it for Everrati to continue doing it, and that’s pretty cool.
