The holidays are here, and it’s time to have some fun. Decorate a room, put up some lights, or trim a tree. This is the season to celebrate family and friends while it gets dark earlier in the Northern Hemisphere.
For many folks, this is the time for exchanging gifts. Some kids are looking forward to Santa Claus, Father Christmas, Babbo Natale, the Christkind, or other entities bringing them presents.
Ford Built Santa A Sleigh For The Other 364 Days A Year
According to a new announcement, Kris Kringle went to Ford Australia and asked for a very special daily driver. He already had the sleigh for delivering gifts but needed something to drive the rest of the year.
Ford got to work and created the Ranger Raptor North Edition. This special one-off of the rugged truck has unique upgrades that no one else can get. For example, Saint Nick can drink hot chocolate from the heated holders in the cabin. Plus, a magical load box has an infinite cargo capacity, allowing Kris Kringle to haul as much as he needs.
This truck is also capable of flying at an absurd 2.94 million miles per hour. An Unobtanium coating diminishes heat and friction at such high speeds. Don’t worry about emissions because the propulsion system runs on burning candy canes. Mr. and Mrs. Klaus can also relax after the holidays because this truck has a tailgate-mounted grill for easily starting a barbecue.
Santa is used to traveling via chimneys rather than doors. In this case, the truck’s doors have retractable wings, and Old Saint Nick can access the cabin through a roof-mounted port above the driver’s seat. The interior features a toaster oven that replaces the glovebox. An advanced version of the Ford Sync infotainment system has special functions for list management, navigation, and weather information.
Ford Says, Happy Holidays
If it’s unclear from this story and the accompanying video, this truck is how Ford celebrates the holidays this year. A flying Ranger Raptor isn’t happening. Don’t worry, kids, because Santa Claus is very real, even if this vehicle never reaches production.
“From all of us at Ford Motor Company, we’d like to wish each one of you a happy holidays, and a big thanks to Kris for trusting us with this project,” said Max Wolff, Ford design director for China and International Markets Group.
TopSpeed’s Take
Announcements like this are gimmicky but still fun. Ford’s designers get to stretch their creative muscles on a vehicle that can do fanciful things.
