If you’re shopping for a luxury vehicle there are plenty of brands to choose from – BMW and Cadillac, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Land Rover, and many more – but if you haven’t considered Genesis, you are absolutely missing out. The Hyundai Motor Group’s luxury division, and the only Korean luxury automaker, Genesis builds some truly extraordinary vehicles, including a handful excellent all-electric offerings. And the brand’s EV portfolio is poised to grow.

An Expanding Lineup Will Include Hybrids

The automaker currently (yes, pun intended — sorry if that amps you up, but such resistance is not appreciated) offers three all-electric models, and each one is superb: There’s the funky GV60 battery-powered hatchback-like crossover, the versatile GV70 SUV, and the more traditional Electrified G80 sedan. But according to a report from Electrek, Genesis may be getting another EV.

The excellent GV80 utility vehicle, which is, predictably, a bit larger than the GV70, is supposedly getting a new hybrid powertrain when the next-generation model arrives in 2026 or ‘27. This powertrain, which will likely be centered around a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, should provide greatly enhanced fuel efficiency, likely with strong performance, too, but that’s not all.

Expect An All-Electric GV80 By 2028

After the battery-bolstered variant debuts, an all-electric version of the new GV80 is supposed to launch, likely in 2028. Rather than utilizing the existing E-GMP electric vehicle platform, this SUV is expected to ride atop the Hyundai Motor Group’s newly developed eM architecture.

The current GV80 is 194.5 inches long and rides atop a 116.3-inch wheelbase. That makes this vehicle roughly the same size as an Audi Q7 or Lexus RX, though practically every vehicle gets larger with every generation, so a new model will probably be slightly bigger.

  • A GV80 hybrid could launch in 2026 or ’27
  • Expect an all-electric version of this SUV by 2028
  • An electric GV80 could ride on the new eM vehicle architecture

Under the hood, the GV80 is currently offered with two engines, a 2.5-liter turbo-four and a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6. With premium fuel in the tank, the former is rated at a respectable 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, the latter, however, is much more potent, cranking out 375 ponies and 391 lb-ft of twist. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard equipment no matter the engine.

Genesis EVs are some of the best in the business, but expect the company’s next-generation lineup to be even better. It’s not unreasonable to expect longer range, faster charging times, and maybe even lower prices.

Aside from that, there are also reports that an all-electric version of the luxury brand’s G70 sports sedan is being developed. Given the absurd popularity of utility vehicles compared to traditional four-door cars, it’s curious that Genesis would put the time and effort in to build an all-electric G70 when more battery-powered SUVs could join the model range instead. Regardless, Genesis is killin’ it these days, and the brand shows no sign of slowing down.
