Genesis is the crown jewel of the Hyundai Motor Group, and the world’s only Korean luxury automotive brand. A standalone division for just 10 years, this company has made enormous strides in that time, transforming itself from something of a curiosity into a legitimate contender, easily challenging the likes of Audi, BMW, and Lexus. Superb product has been the driver of this transformation, and Genesis vehicles look great, have stellar interiors, and provide plenty of technology. But not every product is a good fit for every market around the world, and, unfortunately, one of the company’s models has been discontinued in the U.S.

Goodbye, Electrified G80

As reported by Electrek and confirmed by the automaker’s consumer website, the lovely Electrified G80 sedan is no longer available in the U.S. The conventional, combustion-powered G80 is still on the menu, however, providing a lovely steppingstone between the sporty G70 and the flagship-caliber G90 four-doors.

It’s fantastic that Genesis still offers sedans, rather than deemphasizing these cars like other manufacturers have. But four-doors are a hard sell these days, as drivers continue gravitating toward SUVs, especially ones that are purely electric. This unfortunate discontinuation news was also verified by Car and Driver. A company spokesperson noted “the customer is at the core of every decision we make, and we remain flexible as we adapt to ever-changing consumer needs and market conditions.” The rep also explained that a 2025 Electrified G80 was not sold in the U.S.; 2024 was the last model year offered.

Not A Big Seller

The discontinuation of the Electrified G80 sedan in North America is unfortunate, but probably not a bad business decision for Genesis. Reportedly, fewer than 400 were sold last year, while 77 more found new homes in the first half of 2025. No matter how you slice it, that is an exceptionally poor showing, even compared to other all-electric four-doors like the Lucid Air and Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan. In comparison, dealers moved nearly 12,000 of the latter in 2024.

The Electrified G80 features an 87.2-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion polymer battery that provides an estimated range of 282 miles on a full charge. That pack also DC fast charges at an impressive rate, and can go from a 10 percent state of charge to 80 percent in a lickety split 22 minutes. A Level 2 charger, the kind of 240-volt unit you’d install at home, can take this car’s battery from 10 percent to 100 percent full in less than 7.5 hours.

As for performance, this Genesis sedan is graced with 365 total horsepower courtesy of two 136-kilowatt electric motors, one at each axle providing all-wheel drive. Torque output clocks in at an impressive – and immediate – 516 pound-feet.

It’s unfortunate that this all-electric sedan has been dropped, but Genesis still offers a couple of fantastic EVs. The GV60 is a small, hatchback-like utility vehicle that is youthful and fun, while the Electrified GV70 is a battery-powered version of the brand’s superb GV70 SUV. So, if you crave an all-electric Genesis model, there are still some excellent options.
