General Motors has released its fourth-quarter and year-end sales report for the U.S. for 2024. It’s a pretty rosy outlook for The General, which leapfrogs Toyota as the best-selling automaker in the country. In all, GM delivered 2,705,080 vehicles in 2024, accounting for a four-percent increase over 2023. By comparison, Toyota sold 2,332,623 vehicles. GM also estimates its market share at 16.5 percent. It’s no surprise that pickup trucks played a big part in GM’s success in 2024, but some of the smaller SUVs performed well. GM also sold enough electric vehicles to nab the second-place spot in America behind Tesla.

GM Sales By Brand

Of those 2.7 million sales, Chevrolet, unsurprisingly, performed the best of the GM brands. Chevy sold 1,745,809 vehicles in 2024. GMC came in second, at 614,117. Buick sold 183,421 vehicles, while Cadillac sold 160,204. Trucks were a strong part of that makeup. Chevy sold 560,264 Silverados, while GMC sold 324,734 examples of the Sierra. The internal-combustion Chevy Equinox and Chevy Trax SUVs were formidable, too, at 207,730 and 200,689 sales, respectively.

Impressive EV Sales

It’s not often to hear a team chanting, “We’re number two! We’re number two!” But sometimes it’s an appropriate celebration. General Motors is up against Tesla, after all, which dominates EV sales. But GM was the second-biggest seller of EVs in the U.S. with 114,432 sold. Ford takes the third spot, selling 97,865 EVs in 2024 — impressive considering it only offers three electric models.
