Another page of the calendar has just turned, which means automakers are reporting their latest sales figures. And March appears to have been pretty good for many car companies, including Mazda. The driver-focused “zoom-zoom” brand had an absolute banger of a month, with deliveries increasing significantly in the U.S., enough to set a new sales record, in fact.
Mazda’s Best-Ever Single-Month Showroom Performance
Compared to larger rivals like Honda or Toyota, Mazda is tiny, but just because it’s smaller doesn’t mean the Hiroshima, Japan-based company can’t bring the thunder. In fact, the firm delivered a whopping 43,097 vehicles in the U.S. last month. That showroom performance represents an impressive year-over-year increase of 16.1 percent.
- Mazda’s March 2025 sales totaled 43,097 units
- Year-over-year deliveries increased by 16.1 percent
- Sales for all of 2025 hit 110,316 in the U.S.
- The Mazda3 small car is faltering, with sales declining in the U.S.
Three of the automaker’s utility vehicles had their best March sales ever. The small CX-50 racked up a whopping 9,687 deliveries, the larger CX-70 accounted for 2,452 sales, and 5,039 copies of the three-row CX-90 found new homes last month.
So far in 2025, Mazda has delivered 110,316 new vehicles in the U.S., an increase of 10.2 percent compared to the same time period last year. Similarly, sales of certified pre-owned (CPO) cars grew, increasing by five percent, hitting 7,116 units in March.
Unfortunately, not every vehicle this automaker offers saw a sales increase. Curiously, deliveries of the surprisingly premium Mazda3 small car declined by 12.2 percent last month compared to March 2024. Sales for all of 2025 are also down by 6.1 percent. This car is offered in two flavors: a four-door sedan and five-door hatchback.
What’s particularly interesting here is that sales of the hatchback declined by nearly 53 percent last month, hitting just 1,014 units. However, deliveries of the sedan increased by almost 34 percent, clocking in at 2,516. The year-to-date performance of each body style is the same – the hatchback is down, but the sedan is up – though these changes are less extreme.
Mazda’s latest fiscal year just ended, and it was a strong one for the brand, too. Overall, the automaker sold 510,654 new and CPO vehicles during this period.
Sales Are Surging In Canada And Mexico, Too
Just like in the U.S., sales in Canada and Mexico increased. Deliveries in the former market totaled 7,237 units last month, an increase of nearly 43 percent. Year-to-date deliveries in Canada hit 16,538 so far in 2025.
South of the U.S. border, deliveries in Mexico were even greater. An impressive 9,044 cars and crossovers were sold last month, a year-over-year increase of 25 percent. For the year, Mazda dealers have delivered 26,175 vehicles in Mexico, a 30 percent jump compared to the same period last year.
TopSpeed’s Take
Compared to other automakers, Mazda is tiny. Although slowly but surely, the brand is charting its own course. They’re following a different path than many rivals. In the past, Mazda focused on building driver-focused vehicles. After all, it was the “zoom-zoom” brand. But today, the company has moved way upmarket. Mazda vehicles usually have super-premium interiors – especially compared to other mainstream brands – with superb build quality, excellent materials, and plenty of style, and drivers are likely starting to notice. This is probably a major reason why this brand’s sales are increasing so briskly.
