Morgan has unveiled its brand-new Supersport two-seater, which replaces the outgoing Plus Six as the British brand’s new flagship sports car.

Unveiled for the first time via live stream by ex-Top Gear and The Grand Tour presenter Richard Hammond, and teased in camouflage last month, the Supersport is said to be “the most dynamically-capable Morgan [they’ve] ever had” and “also the most usable Morgan yet,” according to Morgan Cars CEO Matthew Hole. The two-seater is also the first full-production model from the Malvern-based independent underpinned by Morgan’s new lightweight, ‘CXV’ aluminum architecture. The whole car weighs just 1,170 kilograms (just under 2,480 pounds).

Prices for UK customers, which can expect deliveries as early as next month, start from £102,000 (around $132,000 USD).

New From The ‘Ground Up’ Design, But A Familiar Design

Though the exterior design retains many traditional Morgan traits, including the long bonnet, the ‘Morgan’ face complete with rounded headlamps, and the cabin positioned between the rear wheels, the Supersport has been re-designed “from the ground up.” Ironically, the two-seater started life as just a design exercise.

Additional air vents, for example, have been incorporated above the front grille. The long-running boards have been more texturally designed “to give a greater sense of speed,” and the diffuser leading into newly-designed rear lights have been heavily inspired by the limited edition Midsummer.

Launched as a roadster, Morgan has developed an integrated hardtop, finished in body color, from carbon fiber.

There’s also a newly tweaked ‘Morgan’ script on the rear panel. And no, your eyes do not deceive you. That is a trunk on a Morgan for the first time in more than a decade, as per the company’s edict to make its range-topper more practical.

Interestingly, more wood has been used in the bodywork’s creation that ever before, with lightweight aluminum being folded over the top. Morgan’s chief designer Jonathan Wells claims the Supersport is their “most extensively hand-built model yet”.

Beneath the body, two wheel options – a standard 18-inch ‘Superlite’ and a 19-inch ‘Aerolite’ option – are available, both of which have been milled from aluminum to shave an additional 4.1 kg (around 9 lbs) from the curb weight. Tellingly, the new doors are connected straight through the chassis for a more seamless build and improved rigidity, and also include new door hinges to upgrade sound deadening (a similar style can also be found on the centrally-hinged hood).

Launched as a roadster, Morgan has developed an integrated hardtop, finished in body color, from carbon fiber. This saves another 19.7 kilograms (around 43 pounds). Interestingly, one of the more notable elements about the revised cabin – which now includes a bespoke clock built specifically by a UK partner and a Senheiser stereo – is a very un-Morgan-like level of connectivity. There’s even a wireless charging option for your cellphone!

New Chassis, ‘Old’ BMW Engine

The Supersport marks the production debut of Morgan’s new, aluminum-built ‘CXV’ chassis, developed specifically to prioritize driver engagement. Weighing just 102 kilograms (just under 225 pounds), including front and rear subframes, the chassis is said to improve vehicle rigidity without affecting performance, with Morgan stating the two-seater will feature a “more refined, capable and balanced” drive than its predecessor.

The suspension has also been stiffened – some elements by as much as 100 percent – and incorporates new wishbones, springs and dampers provide a “more predictable vehicle response” without negatively affecting ride quality. New anti-roll bars have also been installed front and rear, although the braking system is said to be a direct carry-over from the Plus Six.

Power once again comes from a BMW-sourced 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged six-cylinder, which will send 335-horsepower to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Supersport will complete the 0-62 MPH sprint in a sprightly 3.9 seconds and tops out at 166 MPH.

Sorry, It’s Not Coming To The United States… Yet?

Now for the bad news. Sadly, North American legislation means there are no immediate plans for the Supersport to be sold in the United States. Morgan fans stateside, however, can still purchase either the brand’s halo 3 Wheeler, available in the U.S. as the ‘Super 3’ since 2023, and/or the Plus Four, the latter thanks to a 25-year ‘replica’ deal being signed off to meet homologation. It’s not yet known whether the Supersport will meet these criteria, which was only granted to the Plus Four in November last year.

Prices for the Super 3 start from $53,900 USD), while the Plus Four is available from $84,995, both excluding duty, sales tax and destination charges.
