Heritage, pedigree, tradition – some automakers have this in spades and others, well, not so much. Undoubtedly, of all the vehicle manufacturers around the world, one sports car builder from Southwestern Germany is steeped in tradition like few others. Indeed, Porsche hangs its hat on history, something that is highlighted by the way this company embraces the past.

A One-Stop Shop For All Things Porsche

Proving this, the automaker just opened the first Porsche Classic Center in its home country. Located in the town of Kassel in central Germany, this facility is the fifth global “competence center” as the automaker calls them. The others are located in France, the Netherlands, Norway, and Switzerland. This new facility will be supported by 19 other Classic Partners in Germany.

This new Porsche Classic Center is “a valuable addition for all customers, with a radiance far beyond the region.

So, what are Classic Centers for? Well, a lot, actually. You can buy historic Porsches from these facilities, or have your vintage vehicle professionally restored. The carmaker says that around 100 vehicles are expected to pass through the facility annually, everything from the iconic 356 up to the legendary 911, and plenty in between.

Additionally, on-site experts have access to more than 80,000 replacement parts for roadgoing models, so you can keep your automotive pride and joy running its best and looking great for decades to come. Beyond that, these facilities also sell a wide range of accessories, and can help owners access technical literature, so they can, for instance, learn more about their vehicle or maybe even diagnose an issue.

Appropriately, the newly christened site in Kassel hosted an opening ceremony, which was attended by 356 guests – yep, an homage to the Porsche 356, the automaker’s first production model. Walter Röhrl, a legendary motorsports driver was in attendance, wowing the crowd with tales of his racing days. Additionally, the automaker had a series of famous Porsche models on display, including the 959, 918 Spyder, and even a 917.

Porsche Eagerly Embraces Its Past – And Its Fans

This new Porsche Classic Center is “a valuable addition for all customers, with a radiance far beyond the region. In a personal meeting on site, the classic experts can consult and accompany interested parties on their way to their dream Porsche,” said Karsten Sohns, managing director and CFO of Porsche Germany, in a media release published by the manufacturer.

“Our modern and classic cars are usually treasures in our customers’ garages,” said Alexander Fabig in the same release. He’s the vice president of individualization and classic at Porsche. Continuing, Fabig noted, “That’s why this project is particularly important to us. We are pleased that we are now also expanding our range of services for consulting and support for classic vehicles in our home market of Germany.”

Porsche occupies a special place in the automotive world. Few companies have the legion of passionate enthusiasts this manufacturer does, which is why the company is keen to embrace them by building and operating Classic Centers in various markets, including, at long last, Germany.
