Singer has built a reputation as the world’s premier Porsche 911 restomod shop. The brand’s cars sell regularly for more than seven figures, and its hyper-rich clients will have a new place to exercise their million-dollar Porsches now that the automaker, in collaboration with a Boston private equity firm, owns Willow Springs Raceway.
Singer et. al. Buys Willow Springs
It’s important to note that Singer and the firm, Cross Harbor Capital Partners, won’t just be turning this into an off-limits playground for the wealthy. Yes, there’ll be a private club on-site, but the track will still cater to a broad audience. “The new ownership group sees public access as a key aspect of Willow Springs’ success, and the raceway will continue to host both public and private events.”
“We are committed to serving the community for decades to come and creating a space where all members of the car community can collectively share their enthusiasm for Willow Springs and motorsports. Along with Singer, we are collaborating with recognized and respected names within the auto industry and are excited to partner with them in pursuit of this definitive California experience.”
– Sam Byrne, CrossHarbor Capital Partners
Existing tracks will remain open to the public and changes will be made to “improve safety.” Moreover, the partnership stated that other track layouts and activities will be available, like karting, ATV courses, and driver instruction will still be offered.
Safety Changes Begin Soon
A number of changes will first focus on adding more asphalt and curbs, “enhancing run-off areas” with leveling and gravel. Willow will also receive some updates to its facilities, better food and beverage offerings (there are not a lot in the middle of the desert, as it turns out) and “refining the track and driving experience.” The track will shut down in phases, ideally minimizing closures while improvements are made. Expect to see some of these soon, as Willow is typically pretty slow during the hottest months of the year, for obvious reasons.
TopSpeed’s Take
Motorsport is the future of cars. As cities become denser and cars are pushed to the fringes, enthusiasts will likely continue to congregate at the track. Seeing Willow preserved, upgraded, and maintained in this way means that SoCal’s vibrant car culture will hopefully continue to have an accessible home.
