The
and
aren’t exactly fresh news – the former was initially revealed back in February 2024 and the latter in November of the same year. The initial plan was for them to hit the road before the end of 2024, but during a call with reporters, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares, explained that it’s simply not going to happen. as the brand looks to shuffle things around in an effort to improve product quality and reduce problems post-production. For now, there’s no official launch date, though, we do know that both trucks will be delayed until sometime in 2025.
Why The Ram 1500 REV and Ramcharger Are Delayed
Stellantis CEO, Carlos Tavares didn’t hold back in his brutal honesty about delaying Ram’s newest trucks. The company, as a whole, has a lot on its plate, and now is the time to be prudent in the way products are validated.
“We are just facing a very significant amount of workload, and we want to be very prudent in the way we validate the products, so we take our time. We are managing the peak between the products that we have ahead of us.”
Another reason for the delay is, obviously, the current state of the EV industry as a whole, along with the fact that RAM isn’t exactly breaking sales records with deliveries dropping by 24-percent in the U.S. in the first three-quarters of the year. In a moment of brutal honesty, Tavares admitted that it’s not likely either truck will have a significant impact on sales give the fact that he sees “the market is not reacting very fast.”
The Ram 1500 Lineup, In General, Needs Some Attention
The Ram 1500 REV and Ramcharger being delayed is one thing, but it’s not the only situation Stellantis is currently facing with Ram’s lineup. The Ram 1500, in general, has been suffering from quality issues to the point that Tavares acknowledged that Ram’s U.S. plants were building too many vehicles that needed repairs post-production.
TopSpeed’s Take
While this may come off as bad news for those hoping to land a new REV or Ramcharger in their driveway sooner rather than later, it’s actually a good thing. By delaying the REV and Ramcharger, Stellantis can focus attention in improving processes throughout production that are ultimately leading to quality control issues. What’s good for the conventional 1500 lineup will be good for the REV and Ramcharger. Ultimately, the delay should lead to a better, higher-quality, and more dependable product. If a short delay is what it takes to make that happen, it’ll be worth the wait in my book.
