Tokyo Auto Salon is like Japan’s version of the annual SEMA Show in the United States. Both events let aftermarket companies present their latest products by building wild one-off vehicles. OEM automakers are also there to advertise their performance vehicles to the auto enthusiasts in attendance. This year’s salon runs from January 10 through 12, 2025.
Tokyo Auto Salon is a fun event because of how outrageous some of the show vehicles are. For example, Mitsubishi built an off-road-ready Delica in 2019. Honda displayed heavily modified examples of the N-One and E in 2022 that looked much more aggressive than the standard small models.
A Purple BRZ Is Coming
Subaru’s slate of premieres for the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon includes a dark purple BRZ going into limited production in Japan. The company calls the eggplant-colored sports coupe the BRZ STI Sport Purple Edition.
The car’s exterior is Galaxy Purple Pearl with black accents, and its interior features silver and gray accents. The example on display at the show also has STI performance parts, but it’s unclear whether these components are also for the production version.
A Galaxy Purple Pearl BRZ is also coming to the United States under the name Series. Purple (pictured above). There’s a limited run of 500 units coming to the country in early 2025. Prices start at $35,445.
More Subarus To See At Tokyo Auto Salon
Subaru will have a few other special edition vehicles at the show. The WRX S4 STI Sport R-Black Limited adds dark styling elements to the sedan’s body and has Recaro front seats. The Levorg Layback Black Selection also gets a shadowier look. The Crosstrek Premium S:HEV EX adds STI parts to the small crossover.
Racing fans at Tokyo Auto Salon also have cars to look at. The BRZ GT300 features bulging fenders and a massive rear wing for competing in Japan’s Super GT series. The WRX NBR Challenge 2025 is the vehicle for taking on the Nürburgring 24 Hours. Finally, the High Performance X Future Concept is a WRX for evaluating future technology in the Super Taikyu series.
Visitors will also be able to watch live interviews with Subaru racing drivers and other members of the company’s motorsport teams. Walls will display STI’s range of upgraded components.
TopSpeed’s Take
Galaxy Purple Pearl is an attractive color on the BRZ because it highlights the coupe’s lines better than other dark shades. The mix of race cars and modified show vehicles should keep the brand’s fans excited when they visit the auto salon this year.
