The Tesla Roadster has been one of the most anticipated supercars of the current decade. It was first shown in 2017 with plans for it to be produced in 2020. It’s been seven years since the unveiling of the next-gen Tesla Roadster concept, but it has been continually delayed. We had hopes that it would arrive in 2024, but it seems that has been delayed further, with no future date for production.
The Tesla Roadster Is Not A Priority
In a recent meeting with Tesla’s shareholders, a lot of things were discussed, mainly focusing on the financial reports for Q3 2024. Elon Musk was asked about the Tesla Roadster, and he revealed that it will still be produced, but not immediately. Elon Musk said: “The reason it hasn’t come out yet is that the Roadster is not just the icing on the cake, it’s the cherry on the icing on the cake”. This means Tesla has other plans that take priority over the Roadster and after those are made, the Roadster will be the final touch.
We’d all love to work on the next-gen Tesla Roadster, It is super fun, and we are working on it—but it has to come behind the things that have a more serious impact on the good of the world.
The above statement may be valid, but the part about “the good of the world” sounds a bit off. We understand that a high-performance sports car that only a few people can afford is not a priority. But, Tesla has collected deposits for this car since 2017 and is yet to even present a working vehicle, while other automakers have done so.
The Tesla Roadster Is Long Overdue
Seven years is a long time for a car to still remain a concept with promises of production while holding people’s money. In that time, mainstream automakers have built successful EV divisions for their brands. We now have EV luxury cars, economy cars, trucks, and even multi-million dollar hypercars, and we still don’t have a production version of the Tesla Roadster. Even the Cybertruck, which not many believed would be made, is out, although that still suffers from Tesla’s quality issues.
At this time, there is no ETA for the Tesla Roadster and until Tesla shows a production version and gives an expected production date and arrival, we must assume that the Roadster may take much longer than expected.
