BMW’s ‘G90’ generation M5 performance sedan has been given a graffiti makeover, in-keeping with the brand’s famous ‘Art Car’ collection, to promote the new BMW M Driving Experience Signature Series.

The design, penned by Italian artist Davide Virdis, was commissioned by BMW to promote its customer driving programs, specifically its Snow and Ice Experience, which includes ‘the fine art’ of drifting in Austria, driving a dedicated route on snow-covered slopes (also Austria), and laps on a frozen ice circuit (Sweden).

Virdis’ project has been ‘M SNOW25,’ though whether this is a reference to the new-for-2025 M5 with M Hybrid or a slightly-too-subtle nod to 25 years of the BMW X5, we’re not sure.

M SNOW25: An Orange “Statement Of Individuality”

Intent on his design “making a statement,” Virdis used graffiti as the base of his theme, praising the “raw, rebellious energy” of the urban artwork whilst at the same time promoting the “sense of belonging” and “sense of freedom” it can convey. The design sits atop a bold orange livery, one specifically included, according to Virdis, to convey “just how much the M5 has always been a statement of individuality.”

“When I designed the livery for the Signature Series of the BMW M Driving Experience, I wanted it to reflect something that goes beyond just aesthetics. Graffiti, as an art form, has this raw, rebellious energy – it’s all about claiming space, making a statement, and doing so without compromise. I wanted the design to carry that sense of impetuous self-expression.” David Virdis

A showpiece, the M SNOW25 is the first of several ‘Signature Series’ designs set to be unveiled, but will not be used by customers who sign up for the BMW M alpine experience.

Leftward Yank, Or Scandinavian Flick?

On top of the neon orange, graffiti decals adorn the front and rear bumpers, both flanks and the hood, each of which was individually hand-drawn with pen and paper before being digitally amalgamated onto a miniature, 3D model of the BMW M5.

The ‘CMJT’ logo on the hood stands for ‘Catch Me Just Turning,’ and refers to a driver being caught or overtaken by another driver while in the process of doing a handbrake or J-turn. ‘snəʊ’ on both front wings, fittingly, is the phonetic spelling of ‘snow,’ while ‘Leftward Yank’ on the rear doors is an alternative version of ‘Scandinavian Flick.’ The rather tired-looking ‘Can we sit this one out?’ on the rear quarter panels represent… well, exactly that!

The roof and the wing mirrors meanwhile, plus the trunk lip spoiler, are all finished in dayglow yellow, presumably in a nod to the G90 M5’s mild hybrid system.

717-Horsepower BMW M5 xDrive At The Base

Aside from its winter tires, the all-wheel drive, BMW M5 xDrive art canvas is unchanged from the production model, featuring the same 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8, the same electric motor mated with a 14.8 kilowatt-hour battery producing the same gargantuan 717-horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. Even the 5,390-pound curb weight stays largely the same, give or take an additional ounce here or there.

The Signature Series pays homage to BMW’s long-running and very popular ‘Art Cars,’ which began life with Alexander Calder’s 3.0 CSL back in 1975. To celebrate 50 years of the program, the BMW Art Car World Tour, set to take in five continents, kicks off on 20-21 March in Vienna, and will showcase all 20 heritage models.
