Electric cars can be quite expensive when compared to their gas-powered counterparts. This is why various governments are giving tax credits to EV owners to help reduce the initial purchase price of a brand-new EV. This helps bring down the price to an almost level playing field with the gas-powered variants.

But even with these , it is still a hard sell for truck owners. The majority of trucks in America are used for work purposes and are mainly bought by companies for fleet use, but EV pickups suffer more from range issues in these situations. These trucks are expected to work for long periods and haul lots of items, which will drastically reduce their range.

The Chevy Silverado EV and Ford Lightning EVs seem to be the first trucks that have a decent range for work purposes. For 2025, Chevy has upped its game by adding more range, and it now qualifies for the full tax benefits. This makes it the go-to EV pickup truck if you’re in the market for one.

Only the Base Model Qualifies For The Tax Credit

For 2025, Chevy has made a few updates to the Silverado EV LT, starting with its improved range of 408 miles and a better towing capacity of up to 12,500 pounds. This is more than the previous year, with a towing capacity of just 10,000 pounds. Most people who use this truck as a regular vehicle may not need this much range or towing daily, but for those who use this truck as intended, it is a welcome improvement.

The best part of this is that the Silverado EV now qualifies for the full $7,500 government tax credit which is before shipping. An LT starts at $73,100, which means if you get the full credit then it only costs $65,600. Bu,t no one buys a basic truck, so if you add on the premium package, the MSRP goes up to $79,900. With the tax credit, that number drops to $72,400, which is a great deal for a truck with more range, better towing capacity, and the latest technology.

It Is Still The Range Leader

Chevy has outshone Ford, which is its main competitor in this segment. The Lightning’s top trim has less range at 320 miles and can tow less at 10,000 pounds. While the least range available for the Silverado EV is still an impressive 390 miles. Independent tests from Car and Driver show that the Silverado EV will perform just as Chevy has claimed. Chevy has said that the Work Truck version will arrive later with even more range and will start under $60,000. Other companies may have to work very hard to be able to beat Chevy at this game.
