Ever since Chinese bikemaker Benda filed approval documents here, we’ve been updating you about its plans for the US market. Now, the wait is finally over, as Benda has launched its cruiser bikes to make the metric cruiser segment even more competitive. Its flagship products are the Chinchilla 500 and Napoleon Bob 500–both aimed at worrying the Honda Rebel 500 and Kawasaki Eliminator 450.

The Benda Chinchilla And Napoleon Bob 500 Boast A 476cc V-twin Engine

In a space where parallel-twin engines are all the rage, the Benda duo brings a breath of fresh air courtesy of their 476cc V-twin powerhouse. This is a liquid-cooled engine with an 11.5:1 compression ratio to enable an output of 47 horsepower and 31.1 pound-feet. That’s nearly class-leading, and Benda claims you can easily breach 90 miles per hour. Going large distances shouldn’t be an issue either, since the tank capacity is 4.2 gallons—1.2 gallons more than the Rebel.

Both Benda Cruiser Bikes Have Distinct Designs

Where the two bikes differ is in terms of design. The Chinchilla has a typical beefy metric cruiser vibe going, somewhat reminiscent of the Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight. You get chunky wheels, raked-out USD forks, a chopped rear fender, and a teardrop fuel tank. A low seat and forward-set pegs add to the low-slung nature. There are two liveries–Black and Gray–both with contrasting pinstripes and graphics.

As for the Napoleon, it’s a rather unique-looking thing. One look, and you’ll know it has an uber-retro bobber-type approach. The dangling solo saddle and distinct covers over the forks make that quite evident. Its black-gold livery, with golden wheels, further ramps up the aesthetic. A special shoutout also goes to its ‘Flying Wing’ handlebar shape. As for features, both bikes boast:

  • LED lights
  • Dual-channel ABS
  • Belt drive
  • Color LCD instrument cluster
  • Single disc brakes
  • USD forks

Benda’s 500cc Cruiser Range Starts From Under $6,000

Like what you see? Then, you’ll appreciate the competitive MSRPs. The Chinchilla 500 sells for $5,999, which is $500 less than the Honda Rebel and Kawasaki Eliminator. It’s also $1,000 cheaper than the similarly powered Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650. Meanwhile, the Napoleon Bob is priced at $6,399 for the extra swagger you get. It has no real direct rivals, but the Shotgun 650 has a similar bobber feel, albeit for $6,899.
