During the launch event of the 2026 Lucid Gravity, the Lucid personnel were explaining to me that the reason their cars still aren’t equipped with Android Auto mostly has to do with Google’s notoriously long and vigorous certification process. Google also has a reputation for requesting a lot of data from automakers to allow the technology’s integration, which generally causes resistance from automakers themselves, further delaying the process.

But back in April, Lucid was confident that by this summer, the Lucid Air would finally get Android Auto, and that the Gravity SUV would soon follow, sometime towards early fall, the same time at which Lucid plans on introducing more variants to the Gravity’s lineup. Well, here we are. Android Auto is finally available at Lucid. At least, it is in the Lucid Air. Effective immediately, you can cast your Android phone into your Air sedan’s infotainment system.

2025 Lucid Air Offers Android Auto With Or Without A Cable

Thanks to over-the-air (OTA) technology, your Lucid Air should technically already have Android Auto technology by the time you read this. If it doesn’t, make sure the car’s infotainment system has been updated to the latest iteration, version 2.7.0.

Lucid says Android Auto is available either with or without a cable, depending on your phone’s version. Users running on Android 9.0 or higher will need to physically connect their phone to the car using a USB cable. Versions 11 or higher of the Android phone will be able to connect wirelessly using a combination of both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It’s also important to underline that in order for Android Auto to operate, you need an active data plan on your phone. From Jean-Philippe Gauthier, Head of Software Engineering for Lucid:

Android Auto is one of the most requested features by Lucid owners, and we are delighted to announce that we have begun rolling out a software update to add this capability. Android Auto with Lucid Air’s expansive 34-inch Glass Cockpit builds upon our commitment to compromising nothing by enhancing comfort and convenience for owners.

Why Android Auto Is A Big Deal For The Lucid Air

It’s not uncommon to sit inside a high-end luxury car from a boutique automaker only to realize it’s equipped with less technology than a Kia Sportage. The Lucid Air was not alone in the non-Android Auto space. I recently drove a $350,000 Aston Martin DBX707 that didn’t have it either.

But as a user, it feels odd to be sitting inside a luxury sedan as expensive as a Lucid Air and not find the technology we’ve now come to expect from modern cars. In an interview with Jean-Philippe Gauthier during the Gravity’s launch event in California, he expressed the pain points of not having this technology in Lucid’s vehicles.

He was well aware at the time that it’s unacceptable for a car so technologically advanced as the Air to not be equipped with the sort of phone projection apps we now get from even the most basic models on sale. But the process is the process, and I’m sure the Air’s Android Auto integration brings a lot of relief to Gauthier and his team. Lucid said in its press release that Android Auto for the Gravity is coming soon.

The Lucid Air has one of the most relaxing user interfaces I’ve ever experienced in a modern car. It integrates so well with the car itself that you quickly forget the technology is even there. It’s never too intrusive and can even be minimized when driving the car at night. So, I’m genuinely curious as to how Android Auto will elevate these qualities. Although if I base myself on the initial images provided by Lucid, it appears as though Android Auto doesn’t cover the screen’s full real estate. That’s a bummer. Hey, I’ll take it anyway.
