There are few precious metals out there that truly convey wealth and status and if gold is your personal choice for the latter, then Mercedes-AMG has the SL roadster for you: the limited-production SL 63 MANUFAKTUR Golden Coast. Capped at just 100 units globally and specifically for U.S.-based customers, the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 MANUFAKTUR Golden Coast exemplifies some of the highest levels of customization available from Mercedes’ semi-new in-house individualization department.

As depicted by its name, the SL 63 MANUFAKTUR Golden Coast sports a ton of distinctive upgrades both inside and out, all festooned in the color, gold. But more so, it also takes inspiration from the California coastal region between San Francisco and San Diego and the iconic stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway running alongside it. And there aren’t many more iconic combinations out there that can top cruising the PCH in a Mercedes-Benz drop-top.

As such, the SL 63 MANUFAKTUR Golden Coast starts life as your typical, everyday Mercedes-AMG SL 63. All of its optional packages then get their checkboxes ticked, standardizing the AMG Night Package, AMG Extended Night Package, and AMG Aerodynamics Package. The latter three equip all of AMG’s optional extras, including a pronounced lower front splitter; A-pillar trim, side-view mirror caps, sills, and other exterior trim bits coated in all-gloss-back coloring; a blacked-out front radiator grille and exhaust pipes, and gloss-black exterior badging.

Similar aesthetic upgrades occur on the inside with black Nappa leather-wrapped seats with gold-colored contrast diamond stitching. Said gold contrast diamond stitching carries over onto the AMG Performance steering wheel, the door panel cards, center console, and the armrest.

Following the Golden Coast theme, the seats, door panels, and center console also get trim colorings in Kalhari Gold Magno, a hue bespoke to Benz’s MANUFAKTUR division. Rounding it all off is a set of MANUFAKTUR floor mats with black Nappa leather contrast piping featuring embroidered gold-colored AMG logos, and gold-colored “MANUFAKTUR Golden Coast” badges all throughout the interior, just in case one forgets the name of this limited-edition SL 63.

Aside from the bespoke aesthetic upgrades and the standardization of all the SL 63’s optional equipment, the Golden Coast model remains mechanically unchanged. Under the hood still lies Mercedes-AMG’s latest M177 biturbo V-8 good for 577 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, mated to AMG’s latest SPEEDSHIFT 9-GTRONIC nine-speed automatic. Complete with AMG Performance-tuned 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, the SL 63 MANUFAKTUR Golden Coast sprints to 60 MPH from a standstill in just 3.5 seconds.

The current R232 SL-Class arrived in 2021 as a 2022 model-year vehicle, when Mercedes-Benz repositioned the model entirely as a Mercedes-AMG car and a Mercedes-Maybach model. Both succeed the company’s long lineage of Sport Licht models dating back to the original W198 300SL Gullwing and the W121 SL roadster with the R232 serving as the seventh-generation model, after the R231, R230, R129, R107, W113.

Mercedes-AMG didn’t announce official pricing for this limited-production model and pricing for the SL 63 remains to be announced. But given that a fully-loaded SL 55 with the same packages brushes up against $150,000, you can get the SL 63 MANUFAKTUR Golden Coast ain’t gonna be cheap. But then again, gold never is.
