There is no perfect entry-level motorcycle. And for good reason, as everyone’s definition of perfect is different. Someone wants to attack corners with sports bikes, some just want to putter around on a classic bike, and some of you might even want to attack trails occasionally. The motorcycle in context here can do a bit of all that, but its USP is the fun it brings to the table. Plus, it’s an Aprilia, so you know it looks cool, too.

The Aprilia SX 125 Has A Peppy Engine

If fun is what you want on your first motorcycle, a supermoto is the way to go. After all, these are light, peppy, sharp-handling, and crash-friendly with barely any bodywork. That’s why we can’t help but drool over the Aprilia SX 125. It comes armed with a petite 124cc, single-cylinder engine (same as the RS 125 sports bike), complete with liquid cooling and a six-speed transmission.

As a result, the output is 15 horsepower and 8.4 pound-feet–a lot higher than the 125cc entry-level machines we get in the US. We also believe there’s more performance to be extracted as the SX’s output is capped due to European license norms. With a slip-on or ECU tune, 20 horsepower doesn’t seem unattainable at all.

Along With Sporty Underpinnings

Sweetening the pot are the sporty underpinnings we rarely see on entry-level bikes. A twin-spar aluminum frame takes center stage, suspended on 41 mm USD forks and a monoshock. Both ends have over 8.5 inches of travel and join hands with 17-inch spoke wheels. Each wheel houses a single disc brake to slow things down, which seems adequate considering the sub-300-pound curb weight.

A Stylish Design And Likable Features Complete The SX 125’s Package

Let’s face it: there’s not much design scope in stripped-back machines like supermotos. Yet, Aprilia has somehow made its SX 125 look quite beautiful. For 2025, the front-end gets a new LED headlight flanked by edgy DRLs and sleek turn signals. A motocross-like fender and chunky fork covers up the ante further.

Likewise, the tail also goes under the knife. The biggest change is the new exhaust, which is not only more compact but also wrapped in a matte finish. Two new liveries round things off, namely: Cubozoa White and Varanus Black. The former (shown above) is our pick.

As for features, the SX 125 comes with:

  • All-LED lights
  • Color instrument cluster with gear position indicator
  • Single-channel ABS with anti-rollover function
  • Underseat compartment for phone storage

The 2025 Aprilia SX 125 Has Yet To Come To America

We know you’re drooling over this cool little bike, and we are too. But the sad reality is that the chances of Aprilia bringing it here are rather slim. As mentioned above, Aprilia’s 125cc range serves a special purpose in European and British markets, which is why the Noale factory doesn’t sell them worldwide. While we understand the logic, we can’t help but imagine how fun this would be to rip around American cities.
