A two-wheeler is arguably the best way to commute around the city. After all, you can slice through gaps, get brilliant fuel efficiency, and enjoy the cool breeze. Yet, for some reason, the commuter two-wheeler segment in the US remains incredibly niche, with many potential heavy-hitters ruled out for our market. The latest addition to that list is Yamaha’s new Tricity. Its 2025 version debuted just days ago, and with the updates, this might be perfect for commuting in American cities.

The Yamaha Tricity Has A Peppy Engine With An Innovative Steering

Jumping right in, the Tricity’s brilliant commuting abilities are thanks to two things: its engine and innovative steering. The former comprises a 125cc, liquid-cooled setup, good for 12 horsepower and 8 pound-feet. Both figures come in under 8,000 RPM, so you have plenty of usable power for sprinting in the city. Add to that the automatic transmission, and you have a fuel efficiency figure of over 100 miles per gallon.

Coming to the steering, the Tricity breaks the norm by featuring not one but two front wheels. Called the Leaning Multi-Wheel setup, this comprises two 14-inch wheels, each with its own telescopic fork. The benefit is extra stability compared to a conventional scooter, without sacrificing the leaning abilities and natural experience of riding a two-wheeler.

Added grip and braking performance from the increased contact patch and extra front disc are other pros. Oh, and don’t mistake this with something like the Can-Am Spyder, as you still need to balance while riding and use the side-stand to park the Tricity. The weight remains a manageable 372 pounds, and the seat height is 30.9 inches, meanwhile.

Likable Features Make The Yamaha Tricity Even Better

While the LMW setup is the USP, Yamaha has thrown in some likable features, too. A 4.2-inch TFT is the crown jewel, which lets you access Bluetooth connectivity via Yamaha’s MyRide smartphone app. Once connected, you can see turn-by-turn navigation, messages, play music, and check weather forecasts. Display modes and brightness levels improve readability further. Elsewhere, the Tricity flexes a unified braking system, keyless ignition, USB sockets, multiple storage spaces, a start-stop system, and all-LED lights.

The Yamaha Tricity 125 Might Not Make It To American Shores

But It Should

As we mentioned, two-wheeler commuting is a rare occurrence in the US. And that’s why machines like the Tricity don’t make it to our shores. However, we think Yamaha should consider bringing this here. It makes way more sense than the super dated Zuma 125 available here. There’s also a 300cc Tricity, which could be the perfect sidekick alongside the XMax sold here. What do you think?
