Radar-guided functions have been a prized possession in the two-wheeler world. Only the top-of-the-line motorcycles (Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX, Ducati Multistrada V4 S, etc.) get these, most of which cost upwards of $20,000. But that’s about to change, all thanks to Yamaha. Instead of going the usual way (radar only on top-shelf bikes), the bikemaker updated its Tracer 9 GT+ with radar functionality last year. And now, the new Tracer has set foot in America as part of Team Blue’s MY24 lineup. The news comes just months later we reported the ADV-tourer was America-bound.

What’s New On The 2024 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+

The updated Tracer 9 GT+ features a front radar system (first for Yamaha), housed between the projectors and under the nose. It enables adaptive cruise control which lets the motorcycle accelerate or decelerate automatically as and when the distance between the frontal vehicle changes. You have four distance modes on offer (one is the closest and four is the farthest), all of which work at any speed between 18mph to 99mph.


In addition, Yamaha has also debuted the world’s first radar-linked unified braking system. Once switched on, it monitors the distance from the frontal vehicle, judges whether any additional braking power is needed, and applies the brakes accordingly. So if you apply the brakes but the radar senses you’re still going fast, it’ll add extra brake pressure to prevent a collision.

Another noteworthy update here is the new seven-inch TFT instrument cluster. This, together with the new switchgear, is put in place to make radar functions easy to use. Also part of the package is a new full-screen Garmin turn-by-turn navigation setup.

What’s Unchanged On The 2024 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+


Under all this, the 2024 Tracer 9 GT+ treats you with the same 890cc, triple-cylinder mill as last year. The engine produces 118 horsepower (at 10,000 RPM) and 68.5 pound-feet (at 7,000 RPM), all reaching the rear wheel via a quickshifter-equipped six-speed transmission. You also get riders such as traction control, ride modes (Sport, Street, Rain, Custom), wheelie control, and slide control.

These advanced bits are topped by an equally advanced suspension setup. It comprises KaYaBa upside-down forks and monoshock, both electronically adjustable. These also monitor your lean angles to provide the utmost stability. This is topped by 17-inch wheels, fitted with two 298 mm rotors and a 267 mm disc fore and aft, respectively. Bridgestone T32 tires ensure you have grip regardless of the terrain.


The 2024 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+ Is Priced Under $17,000

When the new Tracer 9 GT+ was announced, we expected it to cost near the $17,000 mark in America. And that’s exactly the case. The GT+ has been priced at $16,499 which makes it the most affordable radar-equipped motorcycle here. Though this is $1,500 more than the standard GT, we believe the upgrades justify the extra moolah well. What about rivals, you ask? Well, stay tuned to TopSpeed for comparison very soon!
