Following a number of teasers, Honda has finally given us our first look at the 2026 Passport. Featuring an all-new bolder design, improved off-road capabilities, and enhanced technology, it should arrive at dealerships early next year with a starting price in the mid-$40,000 range. At launch, the Passport lineup will include three trim levels: RTL, TrailSport, and TrailSport Elite. The TrailSport variants, however, are the real highlight here and were designed with off-road capability in mind.

The Most Capable Honda Built To Date

Powering all models is a new 3.5-liter DOHC V-6 engine that produces 285 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. Shifting duties are handled by a 10-speed automatic transmission – a new feature for the Passport name. The powertrain is complemented by Honda’s second-generation i-VTM4 all-wheel drive system, which (according to Honda) features 40% more torque capacity and 30% faster response compared to its predecessor. Towing capacity comes in at 5,000 pounds.

TrailSport models come equipped with specially developed General Grabber all-terrain tires, off-road tuned suspension, and robust steel skid plates protecting vital components. A notable innovation is the TrailWatch camera system, standard on TrailSport Elite, which provides four camera views to help drivers navigate challenging obstacles. Seven selectable drive modes are standard: Normal, Sport, Econ, Snow, Sand, Tow, and Trail, allowing drivers to optimize performance for various conditions. The vehicle’s increased ground clearance and shorter front overhang provide improved approach angles for off-road driving.

Honda has even developed a fairly comprehensive lineup of genuine accessories, including robust rock sliders and a clever cargo shelf that transforms into a picnic table.

“Our completely redesigned Passport redefines Honda rugged design and capability with tough new styling and substantially increased off-road performance for fun adventures without losing its everyday ride comfort,” said Jessika Laudermilk, assistant vice president of Honda National Auto Sales.

Inside, the cabin has received a significant technology upgrade, including a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen and a 10.2-inch digital instrument display. The interior space has been optimized with increased rear seat legroom and expanded cargo capacity, now offering up to 83.5 cubic feet of storage with the rear seats folded.

The 2026 Passport will be manufactured at Honda’s Alabama Auto Plant and is expected to hit showroom floors sometime in the first quarter of 2025.
