Not long ago, we told you KTM was about to take the wraps off its new flagship dual-sport. Now, that’s exactly what has happened. The 690 Enduro R has received a notable update–its biggest in recent times–that brings a whole host of modern bits to the package. These also extend to the 690 SMC R, which serves as KTM’s flagship supermoto. With the updates, the KTMs aim to put its dual-sport rivals on notice.

The 2026 KTM 690 Enduro R Has New Features With A Tweaked Design

The last update for the 690 Enduro and SMC came a long time ago. So they started showing their age against modern-day rivals. Accordingly, the design and features both get changes for 2026. The plastic bodywork has become sharper all around, and the tank shrouds now extend to the front forks. A closer look also reveals a new LED headlight, new handguards, and updated fork protectors. Finally, a new livery–with white and orange tones–brings ups the oomph.

As for features, the 690s borrow a page from the 390 lineup’s book. That means the old LCD instrument cluster paves the way for a crisp TFT. It comes packed with ride modes, cornering ABS, and cornering traction control. The latter two are made possible via a new 6D sensor. New switchgear and a USB Type-C port up the ante further. All these updates are present on the SMC R, too, barring the livery. The supermoto has its own new blue and orange colorway.

The 693cc Single-Cylinder Engine Now Produces More Power

KTM’s 693cc single-cylinder engine has always been one of the most advanced modern-day mills of its kind. But in 2024, Ducati’s 659cc engine spoiled the party by promising more power. It was only fair KTM answered back, and 2026 brings exactly that. KTM has thrown in a revised crankcase, clutch, and stator cover, topped by a redesigned oil system. These are said to enhance reliability and improve performance. The output of 78 horsepower and 54 pound-feet backs that claim, as the former is higher than the previous-gen model. It’s also 0.5 more than Ducati’s 659cc mill.

Not much has changed in the underpinnings department, meanwhile. Mainly, KTM claims the suspension has been retuned. As a refresher, both the 690s have a tubular trellis chassis, suspended on beefy WP XPLOR forks and a WP XPLOR monoshock (WP Apex on the SMC). The Enduro has a 21/18-inch wheel combo, while the SMC flexes 17-inch spoked hoops. Both weigh around the 330-pound mark without fuel–a minor increase over the 2024 models.

The New KTM 690 Duo Will Hit The Dealerships Soon

Like what you see? Then, you’ll be happy to know the 690 Enduro R and 690 SMC R are scheduled to hit dealerships in September 2025.
